PS - I think the stance of 'we're not telling you about the length of his contract' is a terrible way to run a football club and goes completely against the general feeling that there has to be some long term planning/stability.

    Nowt new there then

For me, Mansford isn't committing as he's waiting for someone to tell him what's happening.

There could be any number of reasons, contractual, financial, timing, etc. Just because I don't know the reasons why, nor does anyone else for that matter, doesn't mean they don't exist. There's nothing wrong with conjecture. But it is only that, guesswork.
To counter your conjecture, if the club rated Mellon as highly as you claim, why didn't they simply appoint him immediately after Flitcroft was sacked?
I haven't got any answers, mate. All I have is conjecture, too. But I honestly can't see how anything with regards to Wilson's position has changed to necessitate the club issuing any statement.

I'd like them to make it clear that he's our manager. It would stop articles such as these. And this one (below) that I've found. The club are 'almost certain' to sack him apparently.

But even without **** stirring articles in the media, I'd like to know whether Danny is our manager going forward. I'd also like to know the length of any contract he's been given. The secrecy of it baffles me.

Perhaps they feel, rightly in my opinion, it's personal and confidential? The club has made these announcements in the past and have been criticised because of the type & timing of a manager's contract. What sort of contract would you prefer him to have? A rolling contract? A fixed term contract? Would there be issues with fans who have a personal preference?
I'm just playing Devil's Advocate, mate, as I don't believe it's an issue.

So by not telling us about the type or length of his contract, folk won't criticise? Is that why they've done it like this? I don't get it. Because I don't think the issues with Flicker, Keith or Robins were related to type/length of contract. The issues (in my opinion of course) were at board level. They chose a horse, and instead of backing it, they had it shot. And we're talking about a board who were willing to appoint Flicker if we beat Leeds, and Hignett had we failed to do so. A board who then gave Flicker everything he asked for. Yes, they gave the bloke who they can't have had much faith in, everything he wanted.
Then, they sacked him after just 18 games. Just as they sacked Keith after a bad run of 18 games. Yet they also separated from Robins despite him guiding us to mid table (ish) and unbeaten in derby games home and away.

So forgive me for being somewhat unconvinced about our clubs decision makers.

I suppose the fact Danny has had 26 games or so, and took us down, yet hasn't been sacked, suggests they're backing him. For now. Long may that continue. But were we to go on a bad run of 18 games next season would they get shut?

As for what I'd like, I'd like what I said when Flicker went (I never called for him to go, btw). I wanted the new bloke to be given a long term deal. I wanted a proper strategy, a proper new era, not a pretend one where you call it a new era but carry on making shocking choices which actually lead to the worst season for ages. I wanted that bloke to be Danny. And despite not being overly impressed by him since his return, I'm still of that mindset. We stick with him. Long term.
Of course, my opinion won't be shared by all, and I'm happy to read others. :)

You may not have had an issue with the one year rolling contracts given to Robins, Hill & Flticroft, Andy, but others certainly did. As did some when Davey had a fixed term contract. The length of a contract means nothing anyway. If a board wishes to go in another direction, then they'll remove the incumbent, irrespective of how long he has remaining on it.
Personally, I'd like to see examples of how the club is going to be run differently off the field on a variety of issues, rather than say things will be done differently. That's assuming, of course, things ARE going to be done differently. For example, have we a proficient enough scouting system for both the first team squad and the Academy? If so, can they be improved? If not, why not? Can the matchday experience be improved for our supporters, without it having to impinge on the budget for strengthening & rebuilding of the first team squad? Can the club actually reconnect with it's supporters and the community, rather than simply paying lip service to it? Can the club match the rhetoric of Ben Mansford's excellent interview last week with regards to the type of player the manager wants to bring in with signings which mirror the mantra?
You're not on your own with your doubts and questions for our board. But I've not seen anything to question the commitment of Wilson to the club for next season and vice versa with regards to his contract.
    Just my opinion, mate.

To be fair, from all that I've heard from both Danny and Ben, it sounds like Danny is here for the long haul. I hope so. Just as I also hope to see some improvements off the field, be it money generation, or fan interaction.
