Thanks for posting. A sound piece of business. Love the fact that it's really been kept under the radar. The guy said lots of interest from other clubs....excellent that Dane has managed to pull this off. Let's just hope he can play!!
By the time he gets to grips here he will be going back. Up there with the oddest signings of all time. Let’s hope it works out!
I like him even more now we share the same Birthday Just hope he's still a Barnsley player on his 21st Birthday
I hope he proves to be a good signing but my impression of American soccer players is they have technical skills and plenty of ability on the ball but they just don't have the physical and mental will to cut it in European football especially English football. As he's only played 17 professional games in his life, is 20 years old and is coming thousands of miles to a different country from a place that doesn't generally produce players who fit into the English game I will be absolutely stunned if he makes much of an impression.
I don't know what to expect to be honest. The showreels aren't too helpful. He's huge, and where that may be a positive at times, in a high energy game like ours, I fear he may actually tire quickly and lose some of the explosive impact. Some of his touches (and method of passing players) looked a bit agricultural, even M'Voto-esque. Some of his finishing didn't look great and he had huge amount of time to try which he wont get in the Championship. He looks very very raw to me. But fair play to him, he's taken a decision to expand his horizons at a very difficult time for everyone and move beyond any comfort zone. I can only applaud that and as a consequence, I really hope he can leave a positive mark. The most important thing though is that he's looked after. 20 years old, thousands of miles from home in a completely different culture and locked away during a global pandemic in winter... thats tough and therefore its important our duty of care is up to scratch. At least he has a few american accents in there, so hopefully they can help him settle in, however long it lasts.
I'm quite upbeat about this signing. Physically he ticks the boxes we've been asking for, and probably leaves deep impressions on the desk. It looks like he can brush defenders off the ball and draw fouls too. I just hope he realises when he's wearing the red shirt the Championship refs will blow for a foul when he uses that strength and wave him away when he draws a foul.
Very raw, but by all accounts, very quick, with some ability. Not hearing any poor reports on him from US fans, and he might just give us some extra pace that can stretch a game to the benefit of other players. There will also be the shock value of clubs not knowing a great deal about him initially. Assuming he is one of the targets that Ismael spoke about, where he said he was happy with the quality of them all, then you have to give credit to the club for getting it over the line. Personally, I prefer having a loan rather than a permanent at this stage, given the balance of the squad we'll have in the summer. Dead right about needing to look after him. He's taking a big step, which hopefully says something about his mentality and confidence. Would be easy for him to sit and wait for the season to start. Looking after him is the least he deserves.
Let's just see what we have to work with. He could prove to be a cross between Dave Regis and Kayode Odejayi, so let's not have high expectations of a 20 year old who has hardly played any proper competitive football. If he's decent, great, if he's not, he goes back home ready for when the MLS kicks off again.
We shall see. Will be interesting to see if Ismael brings him in slowly, but that sort of defeats a short term loan really.
This explains the signing in the most clarity for me. So we've taken a massively highly rated youngster on a four month loan and agreed a fee should we want to buy him. If he performs as well as some hope/expect and the Prem start sniffing, if what they'll pay is more than the fee we've agreed, we'll buy him and immediately sell him on for profit. If he doesn't quite hit those heights he goes back and no harm done. So it's a collaborative trial for us and Orlando and one of the most innovative and smartest things I've ever known us (or anyone in England) do.
Carlos Tevez' move to West Ham was innovative at the time. So in essence, we're a sales agent looking to make a "quick buck" if a club can afford him (which we can't unless we can immediately find a buyer)... on the basis he shows something worth paying a lot of money for? Sorry, but this doesn't sit well with my ethics at all.
