RE: The problem is that Hume wasn't good enough to be our main striker last season before he got inj Disagree. IIRC he scored 4 goals in 16 games, ok not the greatest record but in about half of those games he played as a winger. Also, he was probably just getting settled into the team and the goals he scored were absolute scorchers (Derby, Donny) which proved his obvious class. He was on target for at least double figures and with one decent spell in the middle of the season could of easily hit 15. Lots of if's and but's but no-one knows how well he'd have done but from what I saw there was enough to say that he's good enough.
I needed a nap earlier I was a really maungy, pain-in-the-arse this afternoon when I made that post. You'll be pleased to know, after my nap, I'm more like the cuddly, friendly teddy bear that you've come to know and love. The best time to first make an informed prediction over the outcome of the new season, in my opinion, would be after the transfer window closes. By that stage, we'll be a month into the new campaign and have a better idea of the quality and quantity of squad Simon Davey will have assembled. I know others will disagree with me, but c'est la vie. Blimey, I've just re read my earlier post and I can be a really miserable, old fart at times!! (doh)
5 strikers and only 2 centre backs and he's looking for another striker??? Has he been on Andy Payton's stash????
RE: 5 strikers and only 2 centre backs and ifBobby Hassell gets injured there goes our cover at right back, centre back and midfield.
In actualfact weneed better defenders, not just cover!

good point. I think Davey must be using the Real Madrid approach of only signing forwards, trouble being Davey signs donkeys.
FIVE strikers? You might call them all strikers but in reality they aren't. Calling Odejayi a striker is like calling El Haimour our reserve goalkeeper.
Rest assured I've been standing impassive in my office with my arms crossed for most of the morning. I feel confident that this will result in a significant change in circumstances and that I will get some work done any time now.
I make it 8 strikers The squad numbers were published yesterday. 22 players have been given a squad number and of those 8 are strikers! 1 IAIN HUME 2 KAYODE ODEJAYI 3 DANIEL BOGDANOVIC 4 ONOME SODJE 5 JAMIL ADAM 6 REUBEN NOBLE-LAZARUS 7 JON MACKEN 8 MICHAEL COULSON
I'd really like us to get some quality in the back 4. I think all our big defeats last season came when Colace wasn't playing and protecting the back 4:-
0-3 Ipswich, 0-3 C Palace, 0-4 Norwich, 1-3 Swansea (came on at half time when we were already 3 down I think)....

RE: I make it 8 strikers And yet only 1 of them is good enough to play week in week out at this level
RE: I make it 8 strikers Anyone who is placing any hope of Jamil Adam or RNL to make a big impact just yet is mis guided. Whilst both have potential, that is all it is at the moment. They are only 18 and 15 years old. Just leave them to develop physically, don't expect too much too early or they will end up being ruined! Wayne Rooney, they are not!
