no, odejayi is far worse than richards and it was a huge mistake from Simon Davey

In getting shut of better (although still not good) strikers and replacing them with *****.

Unfortunatly he's made an habit of this

We've not had a 'decent' striker

since Neil Shipperley, so he's not on his own. I'd say Hume was starting to look the part, Cureton has a track record, so maybe, just maybe, the penny has dropped.

I'd agree we haven't had a good one since then

but davey did release strikers only to replace them with worse players.

richards: 6 goals in 31 championship level or above games games
odejayi: 5 goals in 61 championship level or above games

Another point is that it doesnt matter what level of football odejayi is playing at if he cant even hit the target, the goal is the same size in all leagues and if he is putting them high or wide then that is nothing to do with the fact that he is in the championship. he is simply not good enough and needs to be removed from the first team squad straight away

    i don't think he was

In that game, as a striker, how many efforts on goal did he have? and how many chances did he create for other strikers?

I remember him running around a lot and flicking the ball on to nobody (ie giving it away) but not setting much up

    Dont disagree

I certainly wouldnt have brought a player on a season loan from Blackburn to sit him on the bench, but I dont see what goes on in training, as we know, Mr D likes grafters, players have to show willing in training, so what does it say about the others if ODJ is still getting on the pitch before them?

A good striker pairing has to be a blend. Cureton played his best football alongside Iwelumo. Who've we got in that mould? No one. But the nearest is your mate, Im afraid.

Although I've had enough of Oddjob in one sense, Cureton plays better alongside a great lump of a forward, such as Iwelumo at Colchester. Might be worth pairing them for a couple of games and see what happens. Cureton might have the mobility to get on the end of what bounces off Oddjob. Having said that Oddjob has no long term future at the club. He doesn't seem to have a clue where the goal is and is frightened stiff of having the ball at his feet.

    No way

Bruce Dyer had a very good strike rate in both Div 1 and Div 2 and we were **** from 2000 so he wasn't getting great service

Macken is more than decent IMO although he does have the odd barren patch - but most strikers do at this level

    A good point

which unfortunatly for davey yet again shows how badly he has handled the transfer market as he released a far better target man and kept odejayi.

I heard him tonight on radio sheffield say that whaley hasn't been good enough while on loan yet he continued to play him, even playing other wingers out of position to accomodate him. something is wrong there isnt it?

Macken is border line. He's reached the stage of his career where his legs are going and he's getting easily muscled off the ball. Still gets in some goal scoring positions but the clock is ticking fast.

Richards and Odejayi have one thing in common. I've said for both that I've seen better pub players.

    Keep up

We've already said those records can't be compared. Most of Richards goals came in League 1 and all of Odejayi's games have been in the Championship. Odejayi's record for Cheltenham was 1 goal every 3 games (in Leagues 1 & 2), half his goals coming in League 1.

RE: Keep up Richards more goals IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP THAN ODD JOB HALF THE GAMES

I wasn't saying either of them was better than the other. I was replying to your misleading stat. Richards got 6 goals in 31 games in the championship by the way (1 in 5). If you are counting Odd Job's substitute appearances you will have to count Richards.

Yes they are, but they don't shoot or look like shooting.
