RE: Bang on the knee? I agree. He has obviously said it as a passing bit of humour. Doesn't strike me as arrogant. Not having a Gk on the bench is a calculated risk and it is one worth taking IMO. Who could we have had on the bench anyway. Isn't Letheran and Colgan both injured? Once you have made the decision not to have one on the bench then if your GK gets an injury you have to do all you can to keep him on and get through the 90 mins. Don't see what SD could have done differently. German GK's are known for a bit of the melodramatic too. I will bet he plays on Saturday.
RE: Is he saying... You're right mate and if that is the case Muller would have every reason to be well pissed off.
Unless Davey's been misquoted Does that mean he made Muller play with his knee strapped and unable to move across his goal or kick the ball ? Smart. Look well if he has long term damage now.
Good job we were playing Shitechester United.

RE: "we had words in the dressing room and I won" In any line of work you sometimes have to do something that you may not want to do, but if your boss says you have to do it then you have to do it, simple as that, its what you get paid to do after all. And footballers get paid more than most. I thought the back four were outstanding last night in protecting big Heinz and he certainly looked happy enough at the end when he was hugging Davey on the pitch. At times we played some good stuff but a lot of it was about protecting the goalkeeper which we did superbly. We got a vital 3 points and looked to have unearthed a gem in Diego Leon. So can we please get off the managers back and start backing him, cos I for one think he is doing a pretty sound job.
RE: "we had words in the dressing room and I won" Well said. Jesus, they even said they scanned his knee in the dressing room at half time and it showed up no serious damage. Why is everyone getting on Davey's back for doing what he is paid to do ... MANAGE
I reckon it would have been tongue in cheek mate - be very surprised if Davey knowingly risked him - he had a scan afterall. Colchester will take one of three relegation slots on that showing. 15 more points required..
Really hope so. Even if Muller insisted he was okay to carry on, it's up to the manager to make that call.
Having no sub keeper could really have been a disaster last night had we been playing a team that tried to take advantage of the fact our keeper couldn't move.
Can't understand it - he can name 5 subs so still has 4 outfield players to go at if things aren't working. Bonkers.

agree mate Absolutely crazy – it is OK if you have a player on the bench who is good in the nets, ie Jagielka at the blunts as Colin used to do. Something tells me that Stan is no Gordon Banks..
Dunno, he was catching well when he warmed up at half time..... He's mad enough to go in the nets.
Imaginge that happening against one of the Sheffield clubs at Oakwell or Liverpool away.....yikes.

As Jay pointed out We had three strikers on the bench. OK, it's rare that the keeper gets injured and you need a sub (although last night was the second time this season). However, compared with the chances of losing both your front two, replacing them and then needing another forward to replace one of your subs... I mean, come on. If we're not going to play Colgan, subsidise his wages to get him a loan move this week, help the guy find a club and get him off the books. Otherwise ffs get him on the bench.
Didn't Davey say there was some instability though? regardless of no ligament/cartledge damage or the like showing up, instability is how you get that more permanent damage. I can only presume form the quote that Davey made him go out, so Davey didn't look stupid. If Colgan was on the bench, he would have come on. I don't doubt that for a second.
if my manager asked me to do something very dangerous which potentially could damage my career then no i wouldnt 'have to do it, simple as that'
He was hardly frogmarched onto the pitch and chained to the goalposts. I think, given the choice he wouldn't have come out for the second half. But in the absence of choice (a whole other debate) he agreed to continue in spite of not wanting to. I think what Davey said was a disposable comment aimed to say, "I got my way and it worked out in the end", rather than the "I scored a verbal victory over this feeble minion and forced him to play football when he was screaming out for mercy. All heil the new Furher Davey" type meaning some have given it. Tough job when any sentence that passes your lips will be dissected by 20 or so people over the world wide web.
Simon commented on that in the post match interview. Journo asked him what Ferenczi was like in the goal and he said something like hopeless or rubbish but at 6ft 4ish that could help. I think the comments were slightly tongue in cheek and although he did mention that there was some unstability with Heinz's knee that it was decided that he would try and carry on.
