That’s an odd post. And assuming you mean federal (in thePresident’s control) rather than state executions, what is your source? Obama stopped more death penalty verdicts than any other President in US history - nearly 2,000. So I’d be interested in where you get your information.

 

Re death penalty stop me if I'm wrong but isn't terrorism classed as an act against the crown punishable by death still in statute and therefore requires the head of state ( Queen) to pass sentence when requested due to terrorism falling under the umbrella of high treason still .....
If I'm not mistaken the only reason it's not carried out by letter of the law is down to the fact many are of the thinking that it makes martyrs of those carrying out the attacks and the feeling is it would encourage more incidents from within their groups and their supporters if carried out....

 

Shouldn't any time someone terrorises someone else such as kill them it be a terror related incident regardless of skin tone or nationality or anything else of the person bringing terror to a situation?

I won't bother cheapening the death of a good man like David Amess with a worthless RIP post on a forum nobody cares about, however I am intrigued (and of course disgusted) by the disingenuous tributes and good wishes being posted by those who spend all day every day, every week on here spewing the foulest bile at and dehumanising people like him just because they happen to be conservatives and/or have a significantly different political viewpoint. We all know you couldn't really give a monkeys about what happened today, and we might have a wee bit more respect for you if you'd at least admit it.

What's disingenuous? He was by all accounts an excellent constituency MP, who also happened to hold positions which many on here disagree with. That doesn't make what happened to him any less tragic or sickening. Even if he'd been a useless constituency MP, it wouldn't have lessened the pain that his family and friends must be going through now. Were any tributes paid by Tories to Jo Cox also disingenuous?

 

It's certainly a factor, but the state legislatures all had the option to instate alternative methods of execution (hanging, firing squad, poisoning by inert gas, which is more or less categorically proven to be completely painless), yet many of them, mostly Democratically controlled, have chosen to go down the abolitionist route anyway.

 

It certainly used to be on the books as a technicality, though I believe even that loophole was closed a few years ago. In any case, no country which is a member of the Council of Europe may carry out an execution if they wish to remain members.

 

Way to stay classy

 

You can fundamentally disagree with someone but not wish them to be stabbed to death. You can even think their policies have brought about other peoples deaths but that is not the same as wishing them to be murdered in cold blood. It is worrying for the state of our democracy that MPs are being physically attacked holding their surgeries.

 

Yesterday morning I watched a clip from the Jeremy Vine show, where an ‘I’ll support any view to get my face on telly’ guest was defending the idea of aiding refugees to die at sea, in contravention of international law and any idea of basic humanity.

It’s the most angry I’ve ever felt about a political discussion, but I didn’t resort to online abuse, threats of violence or any of the other reactions which many think is ‘normal’.

It’s a sad reflection on society that not only will people murder politicians, but that others think they’re taking the moral high ground by abusing ‘all’ opponents of that politician’s views. In fact, it’s the opposite of the moral high ground, it’s actually those people that have sunk.

Other than his name I didn't know anything about his views as an MP. His voting record however suggests he seemed to care more about the welfare of animals than he did about humans.

Why align it with sharia law when it's legal in 27 states in America? By wanting the death penalty, you're not advocating for sharia law, you simply support the death penalty. Strange to bring up sharia law here.
