I must be one of those simpleton's, cause I reckon Beckham is still world class, and the best option for our world cup chances of winning the whole thing!....His crosses and free kicks are a worth taking him just for that, pin point accuracy is what our David provides, the players around him know that when he as the ball their gonna get a quality pass, cross, or whatever the genius of what he is decides to give....

Egotistical?.... Beckham's the most unassuming player in the whole England setup if you ask me....

As for travelling round just to break the record of appearances is total ******, he knows himself some of the current England squad will smash any caps record he will set, Rooney for example. The guy does it for his love of Football and for the fans what love him....

yeah thats true and while he is still the only one English that can take a decent free kick wether it be a strike at goal or through ball, lampard and gerrard i can hear you saying but both are just power merchants who just tend to bray the ball at the defensive wall, as for pasing Barry comes close to beckham and can also take a decent free kick, beckham offers more than this though, while he's no flyer he gives us more stability and is better at covering defensively when glen johnson is attacking, does he do enough to warrant a place in the squad? iam not sure but i think he may just do it.

As for free kicks - for the amount of free kicks he has taken for england his return is poor.... gerrard and lampard only smash it againt the wall?? - have you seen some of gerrards free kicks??

Knows more about Beckham than any of the football pundits.......he'll be on the plane to SA and I'll be betting he scores the winning goal in the Final....he's not only good enough he's lucky enough

this subject will go on and on, and if he goes and comes back a hero those in the camp against beckham will be eating humble pie if he goes and is a waste of space iam sure you will make all pro beckhams know about it, as i said i cant decide either way but for what its worth i have a feeling that this could be the year that we get a slice of luck and could actually win the thing.

 

if he proves his match sharpness at AC then he book's his place. if he doesnt....

Like you said, England deserve some luck at a major - maybe next year is our year

But.... just say Beckham is a few caps shy of shilts after the world cup - do we humour him for a few more games until he breaks the record?? .... it could go on and on and on

 

AC Milan are struggling big time at the moment - currently 12th, so yeh maybe we will see how good becks still is - I hope he starts a champion league game after the group stages - that will be the real test

Beckham is a play maker, the others mentioned undoubtably have pace and skill but offer much the same attributes.

he turned the game last week he'll be a good option to bring on in South Africa. Take Beckham leave out SWP for me

 

I've just returned to read this and I've realised

You just don't like Beckham do you? (and never have probably). Bit silly trying to come on here and justify that. I originally thought you were talking about the overriding need for pace in the modern game but it turns out you just don't like Beckham. I still say it doesn't matter how much pace you've got if you can't cross a ball. Beckham never has needed to beat his opposition to get in a good cross. He's proved himself time and again.

P.S. I used to have no time at all for Beckham but over the years I think he just got better and less arrogant.

He'd not be a starter and Capello doesn't see him as one, but as an option to bring off the bench to unlock defences with his quality passing and crossing he's invaluable.

Absolute no brainer

He has to go. Apart from anything else he's a big calming influence. if your 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go would you rather leave Aaron Lennon and Glen Johnson down the right, or bring Beckham on to be solid, and most importantly, slow the game down.

All this aside from the fact that nobody gets close to being half as good as he is at crossing a ball.

All this talk of pace - he never had it. He hasn't lost anything from his game, to not take him would be foolish, almost as bad as only taking four strikers in 2006, and one of them being Theo Walcott.

There is nobody else like him, so he's different. Doesnt make him worse. In fact its a better option than all the samey wingers who's names have been mentioned.
