    Can't agree with that fella

Owen.....luxury.... turning a game....can't gamble that he will be fit simple as that.
Beckham, supremely fit and 100% pro at all times, vision, pin point passing and a wicked free kick, also a leader out on the pitch as well.
As others have said.....SWP Walcott Lennon etc....... = same option.
15 mins to go and one of those has not been having any joy all game in the baking hot conditions, why bring on the same.
Beckham does not have to run like mad and try and beat 3-4 players, one pass does it for him.....he would be the first name on my squad list.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Don't think pace is the issue.

It's just the fact that it says a lot about the lack of faith in the rest of the team when you're considering taking someone who most people are saying should go along as a sub in case we get a freekick, need a good cross or a 'calming influence' in the last 20 minutes. Strange, as I don't remember this game turning into the NFL.

He's a decent player, but he's always been limited. His crossing ability is undoubted, but his 'wide range of passing and ability to unlock defences' is 99.9% of the time a drilled right to left 40 yard diagonal ball that any decent right back will have covered. As to the 'calming influence' - well, there are two club captains in Gerrard and Terry who have Champions League experience, so if they can't do it, they're in the wrong job. Freekick wise, we have loads who can take them.

In essence, I agree with your conclusion, if not the entire reasoning. He shouldn't go, but he will.

Yeah, but you thought Sheron was England material.

Got to go to WC for me. All the players who have come in and played on the right haven't really grabbed their opportunity by consistently performing. Beckham has been consistent for England since cap no 1. He doesn't need pace, he is a very intelligent footballer and only needs to work a foot or so to get a cross in, a cross that is invariably on the button. He maybe won't start but he has got to be in the squad. Personally I think there is a case for starting him in some games.

    RE: Eh?

Why post on here if you've got such a thin skin?

It's you that has had to resort to personal abuse. Just because I tagged Henry Winter's comments as "ridiculous"? I watched the programme and thought he was being typically pompous and characteristically anti-Beckham. I also never implied that you had to justify yourself to me (why anyone would think they had to is (I agree) ridiculous). You were justifying your opinion of Beckham by using the argument of lack of pace - whole point of your post so why get so upset about it?

    Are you a

"have to have the last word" poster. I'm pasta caring.

"it's all about opinions" = "it's all about prejudices" otherwise you would have changed your stance given the "reasonable debate" about the need for Beckham to have pace.
