Yes it was known he was injured prior to Chelsea game and Liverpool said he'd play that but wouldn't be fit to play for England! No doubt he'll be back in at the weekend though!

We need a FA ruling that says they aren't allowed to play in the club game following the international they are withdrawn from.

SWP is a very good player when he is been played at chelsea if you ask me, owen has been injured too much and will never be as good as he used to be, dunno why dyer is a striker for england aint he always been a midfielder? end of the day england just hasnt got any very good strikers

Just protecting their assests - look at Owen in the world cup - lost a year of his career.Why put their players out for six months for a friendly game? I don't agree with it - if they're fit they should be playingif selected. </p>

Sorry mate, but you are so missing the point. yes there's nothing in internationals for clubs. friendlies should be an important event, a rehersal for real games. Sven started it, wouldn't play anybody for longer than 45 mins cos the all powerful clubs had already marked his cards. while the clubs call the shots england won't ever win anything :'( :'(

Except, I can remember the performance by Becks against greece in 2001 to take us to japan 2002. football should be a team game but he got a result on his own, awsome!!! if we had three more players as capable and committed as he is, we'd win a trophy. The World stood still and held its breath when he tee'd up a free kick. He turned up tonight, cos he loved his country/shirt/badge and maybe to re-live his prime cos there's no-one else. i'm sad to think his legs have gone and we have no replacement. maybe gerrard could replace him as a leader

I can see that point, but for Liverpool to state before the Chelsea game that he had an injury but would play against Chelsea yet would not be fit to play for England was taking the piss somewhat.

Steven Gerrard played in an important club match on Sunday with a broken toe pumped with painkillers and had a decent game.

Why should he risk the injury getting worse playing in a friendly.

Meanwhile David Beckham who is the most over rater player to play for England, sorry that should be free kick taker was once again poor and that includes Carlton Palmer.

Steve McLaren, give the guy credit. He probably saw that Micah Richards was one of the biggest threats going forward and what does he go and do at half time. Put him in central defence because Wes Brown is a quality right back who can do the same job.

Beckham flying can have nothing to do with it, he probably sits in first class and sleeps all the way back in a bed like chair.

What apart from his free kicks, is he considered world class at?

I play football and at a decent level too and just because he can put in the odd cross and free kick does that make him world class?

There's probably 3 classes of people when it comes to David Beckham, Man U fans who love him, none Man U fans who fail to see the hype like myself and Man U haters who hate him because he played for Man U. Fair do's he scored a good number of free kicks and created goals from corners but theres plenty other players capable of better in open play.

 

was great at free kicks and crosses. The performance against Greece in 02 was one of the best individual performances I've ever seen. He carried the rest of the team. However, I do think he's somewhatlived off that performance since.
