LOL, me a student. Anyway, you wont change my views, as i wont yours. But i wouldnt put myself in that position in the first place to be charged or held, do not give them a reason, or raise suspiscion then there is no issue.

My views are because i hate the scumbags in this world, i wouild also challenge you on cameras, they have prevented crime, and do solve a number of others, that is a fact.

You can hide something if you want, thats your right, even if its a bomb to kill innocent people with. Nice views.

Painting my house in polka dots PMSL, believe it or not there is a covenant stating i cant paint my house pink, so it is against the law.:D :D (that is true honest)

    Shall we move on

How do you mean 'No impact on detection or prevention of crime'

Dunt yu watch Crimewatch and News bulletins. they are catching, convicting, and locking up criminals on the evidence of cameras and DNA every day. So ask yourself would they have been caught if the Cameras and DNA evidence did not exist, would they hell.

And the prevention of Terrorism detention period has enough safeguards for the everyday Joe Public but not for the scheming barstewards that want to blow us up and kill innocent people.

You wouldn't be saying that if it was you though would you?

    which is the whole point.

Even if the people that get arrested are complete scumbags, they are still innocent until proven guilty, whether it's me or you or whoever.

And yet the government want to lock people up for SIX weeks without so much as charging them? Where does it end?

Some opportunist tried to break into my motor

the total lack of concern from the police and supposed crime prevention bodies made my blood boil. since I've had camera installed, and passed word around the estate via my lads mates of mates etc, they tend to trot on past, from the footage I've watched between 2 and 5 am. And not a single bike passes the threshold so both cars scratch free. Had a specialist fit a bad boy lock to the garage as 13 break ins in last 6 month on our estate, smack heads realise they can flog petrol garden gear no problem and my golf bag is carrying a few hundred quid in it. Upgraded the alarm system, lights everywhere, symptom of the society we live in when if you catch a thief you've to let them go else get counter sued for false imprisonment.

New Zealand. Just a matter of time.

    You're not allowed

in this country, to have anything that someone else cant afford. it seems. The police were particularly adamant that it was my fault for parking my car on my drive and leaving a bag on the back seat. Far too tempting for your average drug motivated thief.

    it's easier

to berate law abiding folk than train and equip proper coppers to get out and about.

RE: This is some sort of alternative reality isn't it?

ha! I know what you mean and you have a point - but the Tories have always, at least paid lip service to, personal freedom and minimal state interference. This was of course the same stance which translated into the neo-liberal economic ideas of Thatcher that left millions of people to 'sink or swim' - but in some instances it should work the other way and this is perhaps an example.

If taken at face value then im glad a politician has found the courage of his convictions and stood up to be counted.

You don't have to be guilty of anything to be arrested. And when this government has spread the meaning of the word 'terrorism' to cover many other possible scenarios and local councils are spying on people under anti-terrorism measures then perhaps you're not quire as safe as you think.......?

I wore a jacket today, perhaps I was using it to conceal a weapon!

According to a police spokesman on Radio 5...

Public* CCTV is almost useless in preventing or solving crime. There was an initial drop in crime when they were first installed as would-be criminals got the willies but the fact is they know that the police don't have the time and resources to go pouring over endless CCTV footage. Everyone gets accustomed to having cameras around and crime goes on.

*Okay, personal CCTV may be used to protect individuals and their property/business.

I wouldn't vote Labour (as I haven't since the 60s) because of their appalling human rights record. In 1967 they supported with arms the Government of General Gowon in Lagos againt Lt. Col. Emekwe Odemegwu Ojufeckwu, who after months of torment agreed with former President Azikwe, to form the Republic of Biafra out of the former Eastern Region. J. Harold Wilson and Michael Stewart plus Labour's odious cabinet decided this was not in British interests. They preferred to support the murdering Hausa and Fulani tribes of the North (Muslims incidently - ring any bells?).
Over 1 million men women and children died due to this policy, supported, of course, by the Soviet bloc.
I was there, I knoew at first hand what was going on,. I sent photographs to the supposed contra-Wilson press, but were they published, no.
Look at it today. Labour supports Muslims in Sudan, Kosova, Indonesia, distances itself from Zimbabwe, but will follow a lie from the charming, smiling, Blair, and happily send our troups out to fight a war in the Iraq, which any A Level student could have told him was likely to conclude with civil war and the breakup of that First World War prodigy.
