I enjoyed the away day at Blackpool under flicker aswell they had just come down were still pulling the crowds think just under 17k at the game, Jim obrien put us one up, Tom ince equalised for them we soaked up some pressure 2nd half and then jason Scotland got the winner for us very close to 90 minutes hone fans weren't happy.
I think hill said some silly things which upset some fans while he was here so I can understand why he gets some flak. But flicker although he wasn't a great manager after all was a decent guy and gave us a good half a season and some good memories shouldn't be no bad feelings towards him imo
Yeah, I get that about Hill, but a lot on here slate him for the job he did. At the time he was building a decent team, Vaz ta, butterfield, Davies, Drinkwater(on loan admittedly). Like we’ve seen time after time, the team was sold around him.
A terrible manager who was also a bully and put his own agendas and friendships ahead of the good of the club. A real jobs for the boys man. Let's not forget that the formation and lineup that saw us stay up was actually Keith hills idea who was sacked a couple of weeks before he got chance to implement it (flitcroft himself admits hill was going to play it straight after the international break). As soon as we were forced to change from the tactics he inherited from hill he was absolutely clueless. Oh and he was a bully
“Hi Dave are you looking forward to your new role” “well I was in the garden with the kids...blah, blah ....special humans... blah blah... 2 hours later... “That’s great Dave but are you looking forward to your new role”
We stayed up in 2013 on the basis of a superior example of tub thumping. Never seen tub thumping as a methodology on it's own be so successful. It was an enjoyable second half of the 12/13 season for sure. But gawd, he was a shocking manager really and was quickly found out in the early days of the following season.
Hecky just passed the book to every one else when things went down hill when he changed things and mad poor tactical decisions. Hecky does remind me of flicker nice guy but poor football manager.
Flitcroft definitely got the benefit of Rory Delap, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Jason Scotland and a goal scoring Dagnall. O'Brien had his best spell too.
True it was hills formation not sure he could have implented it with the same effect as flicker had. Did hill get sacked after the 1 nil defeat to relegation rivals Wednesday around Xmas new year time? He seemed like a broken man after that game. Flicker seemed to be good a motivating the lads he had at the time and it sort of steam rolled with alot of chest pumping etc
Keith Hill was sacked 29th December 2012, the next International break afterwards was 23rd March 2013. But never let the facts get in the way of a good story
When they said they needed someone to look for a new coach I bet they weren’t expecting to end up with a 52 seater
I still don’t know what to make of him. On one hand I have to salute him for getting that team to stay up as I’ve no idea how he did it. I remember one game where we were down to the bare bones away at Forest & we kept a clean sheet with a back 4 of Andrai Jones, Wiseman, Cranie & Noble-Lazarus. It was a brilliant few months. Staying up at Huddersfield will always be one of my fondest footballing memories. On the other hand he completely lost the plot the next season. Gave all his mates who he shared an agent with new deals, refused to play the 3-5-2 that had worked the previous season & spent the last few weeks before he was sacked playing a flat midfield 4 with Dawson on the right wing & Mellis on the left wing whilst wingers were left on the bench. I was also told he was horrible to Hassell & Steele. All I’ll say is I hope the Port Vale chairman’s ready to fund all the trips to St. George’s Park.
