Wow that's quite an argument Jamboo, for a different thread lol. But I agree though, and I think Conor conned us and the owners, a bit!.
Happy with this. If we do get a young lad in as well - like Tovide - then I can't think of a better role model and ultimately, he's an improvement on what we currently have.
This is an interesting one. People were clamouring for Norwood back, and although McGoldrick is older he's probably better right now and was much better at their respective peaks. If he comes and does the Norwood role this makes a lot of sense.
Even at 37 I’m confident in him being able to make the ball stick for 20 minutes seeing out a game. I’m also confident that he would be able to put a chance away should it fall to him. If that’s how he’s used I don’t mind this.
And the tena men. In all seriousness, I’m happy with this signing, a lot of experience and will hopefully help develop our other forwards
Thing is, he scored 17 goals in league 2 last season, won player of the year at County and was named in the League 2 team of the year. He was clearly playing below his level. Had he been 27, we'd be applauding this as a masterstroke. I hope we get someone like Tovide in who can learn from him, replace him after the hour mark (or vice versa) and ultimately be McGoldrick's long term replacement. I'm going to try and ignore the point that he's 37. I know age is a number, but it's not as though we've signed him from the league above, albeit he was in the Premier League just a few seasons ago.
Well I guess he will turn up in more games than Humphrys did I suppose. If he doesn’t retire in a few months.
As an Ireland fan I've watched a lot of McGoldrick. His hold-up play is exceptional and by God it needed to be for us with 10 men behind the ball. He played the lone striker role incredibly well and is great at bringing others into the game. Never had pace, so hopefully age isn't a big factor for him
