I don't think Dawson and perkins can play together and be effective. They are too small, no physical presence in there, nobody to compete for the aerial ball. For me it's either/or with Etuhu.

I agree with Colace and McPhail (although lets not forget many fans hated them), but neither of those could have played the pressing style of football that brought us success under Flitcroft last year and against Huddersfield and Charlton (at times) this year. I tell you what though, either of those would have fitted well in to Hill's team. Anderson would have been quality under Hill too but I don't really see him as a comparator position wise. Imagine if Hill would have had the budget for players of those three's ilk....

When we are playing a high tempo game without the ball I think Perkins, Dawson, and Etuhu are spot on. They were in numerous games last season where we made teams like Watford, Hull and Leicester look useless. Etuhu is less consistent but I think we need his presence and when he is on it he is a beast of a player.

Lets get in Watford's faces on Saturday and watch them crumble again, and lets stick an attacking midfielder on from the start and hope however it is makes use of the platform our engine room provide.

Scott Wiseman is one of the best defenders in this division. And one of the best defenders we have had for some time. His poor form came after he suffered some vindictive online attacks not before.

Credit to him he rolled his sleaves up and got on with it. So far this season he has been player of season

As for Dawson what he may lack in technical ability he more than makes up for in effort he is the workhorse of our team.

Trouble is as many have pointed out we have 3 workers in mid field and lack creativity. For me I'd rest Perkins and recall mellis. Having said that from what I have seen of Digby he is going to be phenomenal

I think that would be the ideal combination and I'd try to go with that as often as possible, but I'm not sure Etuhu is playing well enough to justify a first team place at the moment. For me he's been the weakest of the three so far. I do believe this is because he is coming back from injury, but with that in mind I'd be tempted to take him out for a game and bring him back gradually.

Probably get slated for this but not arsed. I reckon McNulty could be ideal to be the either/or with Etuhu. There I have said it, feel better now.

To be fair McNulty has had a couple of decent games in that position. So I'm happy to be burned at the stake for agreeing with you

Dawson is a 100% grafter and never shirks a tackle. Also seems a great character. The problem is and one the majority on this board appear to be expressing opinions on is that he lacks creativity, will not score more than 5 goals a season and certainly in my opinion is not a Championship standard player. We need more than a grafter in our current position.Having said that it certainly doesn't help his cause when he is playing out on the wing like he was at Bournemouth.
There's no vendetta against him, just the frustration of seeing a midfield without any creative spark being selected week in week out and that leads on to other issues which are being discussed on this board.

I wouldn't object to playing McNulty in defence midfield with Perks as the water carrier, then with Jennings and McCourt carrying the threat wide.

Wasn't Dawson absent for Watford, Leicester and Hull last season. No Ill feeling at all from me towards him. He gives his best. We played our best football last season without him and cannot continue to select 3 defensive midfielders and hope to control the pace of games. We are constantly inviting pressure and have no creative outlet. Perkins and Dawson are not a viable option. Not enough physical presence. Flitcroft is doing him little favour selecting him out of position.

Re Wiseman I must say, the defending displayed against Forest by him clearly demonstrated this.

Re Digby He won't play 50 games as it stands.

Cant agree with that Dys - Think Kelvin was unreal last season in middle of park and made that position his own. Struggled this season but i think thats down to injury more than owt else. Let him regain his fitness and the real 'Kelvin' will return. Thee watch!!

For me it should be Perkins and Etuhu with Mellis in hole. Dawson as back up. When all at full speed.
