Up until this season, I'd always liked Dawson. Especially last season before his injury. Was a real box-to-box warrior who also scored some quality goals. His workrate and drive were commendable. However, this season he's looked every bit the player Conan describes. I think he showed signs against Blackpool a while back, and certainly seems to have shown even more at Reading on Tuesday, of rediscovering the form that first impressed me. But, I'm also a fan of Mellis who was pretty much our best player last season under both managers. The accusations against him of not caring, having no fight etc are complete ********. But recently, his form as a creative influence, a playmaker and goalscorer, has near enough vanished and so his weaknesses are seen clearer. Those weaknesses are indeed regarding work rate and fight etc. But when he's on form, you don't notice them/need them as much. Same goes for the last Jacob we had who also got this "he doesn't care, he's lazy, no fight" ******** whenever his creative/attacking/playmaking form deserted him. Basically, we judge and rate players short term. One minute *****, the next fantastic. I say we, but I don't partake in that kind of stuff. I have my thoughts on certain players and their abilities, but I try not to let my overall judgment of them stop me from discussing their form fairly from game to game. I don't like Kennedy. I think he's a shithouse. But if he plays well I'm happy and even more happy to praise him. I used to say Vaz Te was gash on here for the first couple of months he was with us. His appearance against Pompey away was up there with the worst displays I've ever watched by a BFC laiker. But he didn't half turn around my opinion. So anything is possible. I look forward to Conan eulogising about Daws in May when he's led us to safety.
If you're honestly trying to claim that Mellis hasn't shown any talent then you really are making a tit of yourself.
If we stay up it will be in spite of him not because of him. Makes me laugh really. Dawson cost us the game at Watford but all the focus was on the third goal which was Mellis's fault. Whoever interviewed Danny on Radio Sheff has just said Dawson deserves credit for his celebration. We are actually praising a player for celebrating. This is what we have been reduced to.
I can see your point, mate. I'm a little 'meh' when it comes to Dawson. But then I've been like that with most of our players for a while now. Tuesday night sounded like the reds I want. Not because they won, but by all accounts they played to win, in all senses. That's all I ask.
With Mellis it hasn't got us very far has it? If Mellis was playing as if he meant it, I'd have him over Dawson. But he isn't and has been a passenger when he played. And as a final word, Brek Shea!
Dawson has played more times than Mellis and look where we are in the table. Hardly a ringing endorsement for selecting him above any else.
Daws was awful for the first half of the season and struggling for any sort of fitness and form. More recently, he's put in two motm performances interspersed with poorer appearances. The most you'll get out of him is adequate for this league, but he's certainly fighting for us at the minute and that beats the attitude of mellis everytime for me..
Are you saying Mellis would make a difference? Mellis is playing as if he doesn't want to be here. Because of that, most games he's a passenger. At least Dawson will try and get into the opposition. Mellis just doesn't seem bothered.
