This is my worry too, I am really concerned about the quality of player we are going to be able to attract. My optimism is evaporating very quickly.
New season new start! Many of the current squad have struggled to make the step up to championship level but have proved they can comfortably hold there own in league 1. Dawson being one of those. But consider speculation regarding match fixing may rear its head again, and so many available players during summer months... If the lads don't want to stay get rid... One that I would like to see here as replacement if Dawson Leaves... Paul Green, tall combative influential and experienced midfielder just what needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcEZ8UZA01w
I'd agree usually, but I'm guessing the reason he wants to stay is down to the fact he has a very good wage here. I really hope he improves this season too. For his and the clubs sake
He was POTY in his first season, they flirted with the playoffs. The second season, they were struggling. He made 60 League One appearances for them, scoring three goals and creating a massive two for others. I think Orient have done much better since he left, in fairness. Look where they are today. But whether he's good in some folks eyes, or **** in others, the fact is he's rejected whatever contract we've offered him, because (as Mansford said) he obviously doesn't want to be here and thinks he can get a better deal elsewhere. So I am ****** if I'm going to follow the lead of some of you who despite him being a very average laiker (at best) in his time here you're still bigging him up. The bloke who threatened supporters, is on bail for potentially fixing BFC matches, the bloke who left the Riverside to drive back home to Bury and then meet up with his pals at Rochdale to celebrate their promotion. Aye, he wa a reight hard working toiler who loved the club, was Daws. **** him. Good riddance.
I'm not bigging him up at all. I don't think he's a good championship player. I'm just dealing in facts, he's capable of been a good league one player, it's proven. Like I say I'd still out him because of this court case & things need freshening up. Did he really celebrate their promotion or did he just go out for a few beers with his pals to cheer himself up like many of us did? I know I did. When things are ***** many of us go out for a few beers & for a laugh does it mean we don't care about our jobs etc? He didn't threaten supporters either, it was one individual who was throwing all sorts of abuse his way, it was daft of Dawson to react but that individual was certainly the bigger dick of the two, I was embarrassed to be sat near him. Of all the tossers on the pitch that day (Frimpong, Proschwitz, Shea, Kennedy etc.) he chose to personally abuse a bloke who'd been on the pitch roughly 10 minutes & had the decency to applaud the fans for the shambles we'd seen. I'm not right bothered how many goals / assists he gets either, he's a holding midfielder. That's about the last area I'd be judging him on. I'm more worried about his passing.
He's not a holding midfielder at all. I ask you to go onto Player and find the interview he did a while ago, where he says he was played out of position by Flicker on the wing, when he sees himself as a box to box midfielder who scores goals and creates for others. A holding midfielder would be Etuhu, or Hassell. They usually get the ball and move it on quickly, whilst holding position. Dawson did neither. He regularly gave cheap balls away, and couldn't hold position, just ran around aimlessly. He did however, charge forward with the ball often, to varying degrees of success during his time here. I thought he was decent for the first 9 months or so, but this season especially he looked the limited laiker that he is. Problem was, so were the majority of his mates. As for the Rochdale/promo thing, if you've just been relegated as a BFC laiker, I think a sensible/decent decision would have been to keep your head down and drink somewhere quiet, not be seen by many at Rochdale's drinking session. As for threatening supporters, yes indeed the bloke abusing him was a complete head the ball, but Dawson's reaction was moronic and both disgraced themselves that day. But hey ho. I've made my points.
Bang on. I think he could do ok for us in league 1 but their are some things which just aren't repairable
If he'd wanted to stay, I'd have given him the benefit of the doubt and supported him on the pitch as I always do. I wouldn't imagine him being much better in L1 though. As others have said already, going down a division doesn't all of a sudden give you better technique, make you pass the ball any better or your shooting more accurate. He was a bang average laiker. Ten a ******* penny. Good luck to him at his next club and with his match fixing issue.
