I think Clarke is doing quite well. The football is more entertaining with, arguably, a weaker squad. As I've said before the guy should be backed over a couple of windows at least - I didn't think the same about Collins. So its a positive from me overall. However, we shouldn't get too giddy because of a nice run of results. We need some long-term perspective (hence my two windows comment). I wonder how many people who are giving the coach 7/10 or more now were giving him 2/10 a month ago. As I say, in my opinion he's doing quite well, he seems to be working hard and the football is better. I'll certainly not be slagging him off if they lose the next two or three games. Long-term he needs backing. Judge the guy more effectively in a year if and when he's had more time to improve and mould the squad to his own liking
. I’m pretty sure that’s incorrect. I listened to a post match interview from the Wrexham game. I think it was with DKD. He said that the manager told him at halftime to go and get three or four and put them to bed, but it just didn’t materialise would seem a bit odd for him to make that up
I've not seen even highlights from the festive games, so my score is likely lower given the sudden uptick in form. I'd probably go 6. We've had some dreadful performances and he has to take criticism for such a lengthy period of awful home form, ignoring some players and playing some who needed dropping too long, plus so many games where substitutions hindered us. But he's also inherited a pretty poor imbalanced squad. I'm hoping the recent run of games has improved confidence, but that there is some basis of organisation going on which we've been lacking. I think the last few results have shown how weak this division actually is. A few wins and you're in the mix, a few defeats and you're out again. Many other seasons we'd likely be well adrift, so it's up to the club and management to take the gift horse and make the most of it.
I don’t think that’s right about being well adrift mate. 42 points after 25 games usually has you on the fringe of the play offs, or in 19/20 season you’d be second!
Can’t agree there mate, we’ve won 4 on trot from just being outside playoff so 4 x 3 means 12 points so deserving to be back in play off positions. All this talk of weak division makes me laugh too, during summer loads and loads were saying how league one was going to strongest for years, citing the addition of Birmingham, Huddersfield, Rotherham(perennial promotion favourites), Wrexham Stockport, as well as the usual candidates, i.e. Bolton.....DC cannot be scored at less than a 7 for me pal surely. This league has never been easy to get out of.
After 25 games under Stendel | 2018-19: 5th position on 46 points. 7 home wins, 5 draws, 0 defeats - scored 19, conceded 8. 6 away wins, 2 draws, 5 defeats - scored 21, conceded 15. 2 points clear in the play-offs. 6 points off the automatics. Finished 2nd with 91 points. After 25 games under Duff | 2022-23: 6th position on 43 points. 8 home wins, 1 draw, 4 defeats - scored 20, conceded 14. 5 away wins, 3 draws, 4 defeats - scored 13, conceded 10. 5 points clear in the play-offs. 15 points off the automatics. Finished 4th with 86 points. After 25 games under Collins | 2023-24: 6th position on 46 points. 6 home wins, 3 draws, 4 defeats - scored 25, conceded 16. 7 away wins, 4 draws, 1 defeat - scored 23, conceded 13. In the play-offs via goal difference. 6 points off the automatics. Finished 6th with 76 points. After 25 games under Clarke 2024-25: 5th position on 42 points. 4 home wins, 5 draws, 4 defeats - scored 20, conceded 20. 8 away wins, 1 draws, 3 defeats - scored 19, conceded 13. 4 points clear in the play-offs. 9 points off the automatics.
So based on the above, this is our worst 'first 25 games' at this level of the last four. By a point. Under Stendel, we motored on, no real drop-off second half of the season. Isn't 91 points our club record? Under Duff we improved massively, but were sunk a little in the last handful of games. From March onwards under Collins it was relegation form. So even if we just maintain current form, it'll have us looking at a play-off place. If we do a Duff season, who knows.
But don't forget. This manager is pub sunday league management material at best. Bugger all to do with players apparently.
I have been watching 72 years I am used to it. But doesn't alter the fact , that is what Clarke is doing
But we do, , yes losing teams are going to have ago but we just sit further and further back and let them come onto us and yes the last few games we have rode our luck
He gives stats for all the last four seasons in this division, so I'm not sure what you mean. As far as better and exciting goes, I can never before remember us winning four matches over the Christmas period, never, and I've been watching us 45+ years. And the goals in those four games, 'kin 'ell.
