Pearson and Waring til end of season, a new LB, another wide/attacking midfielder. In that order. Then a striker (we can look properly in the summer if Waring stays), then a CB if I'm being greedy. If we get the above we can let Hemmings go out, loan or perm, Bailey can go (although I'd like to see him be given a chance further forward than DM), and Lita. There'll probably be no business done.
Have it on good authority from ex player that Jennings is a class above everyone else in training but fails to produce it on the pitch. This is not only frustrating for us fans, but management, colleagues and himself. Perhaps that is why he has never made it much higher. Another example of so much talent but cannot use it.
Very interesting. That's pretty much what I assumed was happening, as in every single interview he's done he comes across as exactly the kind of hard-working, down to earth player that we want to build our team around. He's an infuriating player, but I've never believed that he fails to perform because he can't be bothered; that just doesn't sit right with me. I know this might not be a popular opinion on here, but I'd be totally up for giving him another year, and then look to move him on next January if he still can't produce the goods. There aren't many players who I've wanted to do well as much as Jennings, and I still think that if he can get himself sorted out then he's got a lot to offer, certainly in League One and perhaps higher. It's not as if we'd get much for him at the moment anyway.
I agree that whatever is stopping Jennings perform is mental rather than a lack of effort. I would also like to see him given more time as it will be worth it if he gets it right, but the problem is his wages. He will be one of the top earners and deciding to keep him for another year may mean we miss out on a top target in the summer. If he takes a pay cut and wants to fight for his place fair enough, but I imagine another club will look at his goal of the month competition and offer him something similar to what he is on now. Can't see him being here next season.
Am I right in thinking Jennings was one of the few ever barnsley players to be given at least a 3 year deal, might have even been 4.
