    I still think it'll be

    David Flitcroft who'll be appointed.

    Caveat venditor.

...though the last time we did this with "the People's Choice" we ended up with Spackman. :-(

Presumably the Board have asked him "where he thinks it went wrong under Hill" and "what would he do to address this" - depending on his answer then it could be a possibility (or probably.) Appointed to the end of the season before being reviewed again).

I wonder if the club is trying to mix the experience of a seasoned manager with a number 2 like Redfearn who the fans can relate to. This would cover all bases but is harder to pull off as managers want their own backroom staff.

    Would make sense to me.

I agree it is harder to accomplish, but maybe this is stipulated to the new manager during discussions?

We have to remember here that in this negotiation, BFC hold the upper-hand.

What about a Redders or Hignett with an experienced coach at the side of them?

The club statement said it wanted to reconnect with the fans but it did not say this was directly linked to managerial choice just hinted at. It would be a good idea in my view but harder to sort out.

Somebody like Ricky Sbragia with one of them might do it, he's currently Scotland Youth Team coach , after keeping Sunderland up in the Prem as caretaker manager I'm surprised Sbragia didn't stay in Management. Could be a good No2

The problem is the board worry too much about making appointments to appease the fans instead of having conviction in their decisions which are taken with full knowledge of all the facts.

The responsibility for appointing a new manager

Rests 100% on the shoulders of Messrs Cryne, Rowing & Taylor, no one else. It is theirs and theirs alone. It does not get delegated to other parties. If they get it right, the fans shouldn't receive credit for the appointment. Neither should the fans be blamed if they get it wrong.

Re: If the powers that be

Really interesting point this one. First and foremost I'd like to say no to Hignett. We need someone experienced.

Certainly Ronnie had plenty of coaching experience at Tranmere before getting the toytowners job, but agreed he turned it around there. Keegan had a shed load of cash. It's the easy route to go down though isn't it, a former player? There are plenty of instances where it hasn't worked (Wilson at Wednesday, Turner at Wednesday, Jackson at Bradford). Think we need to be careful not to be swayed by nostalgia.

    Aye, bloody work.

I adore Higgy for what he brought to this club. Talent in spades. A game-changer.

Manager for BFC? I'd love to see it, but it would be a big risk.

Either way, I'd love to see the likes of him, Eaden, Barnard, Redders etc back at Oakwell in some capacity. We need to feel that our club is ours again, and legends at the club could only help restore some semblance of pride.
I think Keith's attempts at Rochdaleing us has set us back years, aided by The Don and co, who acted far too late.

Me too. The ex-Barnsley players people keep coming up with have no championship management experience, a charge that was levelled at Hill. If no other party fit the bill, it has to be the present incumbent.
