Do we really need another defensive midfielder? To me we've already got quite a few. Re Hassell in midfield - I think he would do just fine there and I've always been impressed when he's played midfield. Perkins, Etuhu, Dawson and Hassell all have their advantages and disadvantages; it just depends which of them you value more or less. Ideally, it would be nice to have a player that has Hassell's experience and composure, Perkins' energy and tenacity, Dawson's workrate and drive and Etuhu's height and pace... but then, we're not exactly made of money.
He brings a calmness to play at times when needed. He brings leadership in a good area In a 2/3 he gets the ball from and to the more creative players. He wins the ball back a lot, yesterday he had to chase the ball back for 30 plus seconds, but he did and he was the one with the ball at the end of it. All this he doesn't shoot is trash talk, he can shoot. Hes got a good shot but hes not going to pick one out of the air and put it in the top corner at a awkward angle when theres a good pass on to the left.
Busquets of Barclona as 5 goals in 159 league games and i would imagine a lot of them are from corners. About the same ratio Conan, Theres more to midfielders than goals and assists
Dagnall isn't good enough at this level, certainly in terms of goals scored. He has 6 in his 50 league starts for us. He has 9 assists in that time, though, and works hard for the team. Comparing that to Tudgay who has 8 in 44 starts at the same level over the same timeframe. Who has 7 assists and also works hard for the team. I suppose Marcus edges it, although he is older, and most of those starts were at a better club with better teammates. He's also not our player. So that's my thinking/reasoning behind me saying get shut, save some coin, and bring back Dagnall. Were Tudgay a prolific scorer or whatever, I would understand the point in him being here. As it is, from statistics, and from what I've seen of him over the years, he's a more expensive, less fit version of Dagnall. I won't try and compare McNulty with Ramage. Pointless doing so. But I have yet to see this much lauded ability he supposedly has. Last season I saw a few games of Palace's, with Jacob being there. He looked as average then as he does now with us. Their fans, like QPR's, named him 'Damage' and only spoke in glowing terms of him in reference to his off-field persona. He's a lovely bloke apparently. However, maybe he is better than McNulty, M'Voto and Hassell. I don't think he is, but that's just my opinion. He's started 7 games for us and we've lost 5 of them without keeping a clean sheet. I'd expect those stats to be a bit better with such a 'proven' Championship defender at the heart of our back four. David Fox is pretty much the most pointless signing I've seen at Oakwell for some time. He offers nothing that at least 6 other midfielders already here can't give us. People whinge about money, and our short term attitude, yet are quite happy for us to retain these sort of players who aren't much better - if at all - than others already here. Others retained by the same manager who then recruited these loanees. It's frankly bizarre.
I don't see enough of him to know what type of player he is. So if you're a midfielder and you don't contribute at either end, what are you on the pitch for?
Perkins does contribute. I wonder what Mellis thinks to this your saying, I bet he would disagree well I know because hes spoken about Perkins before and what he does for the team. BTW thats the statistics of a Spanish international too
We must have been woeful last season then because he walked player of the season by a country mile. Hassell won't have the legs to play in central midfield anymore.
If Ramage is a good defender, why have we lost 5 of the 7 games he's started in? And not kept a clean sheet? It can't be Butland's fault, because he's top drawer you said. You reckon Kennedy and Wiseman are good, and Cranie. So who's to blame for these defeats/goals shipped etc? I have spoken with 8 different people who were at the game yesterday, via txt and phone call. All of them reckon Perkins, Butland and the full backs were poor. Or words to that effect. And your idea to 'sell' Scotland (who has 2 goals in 3 starts) and Dagnall is flawed. Both our out of contract in June. We'd be able to get rid on a free maybe, but sell? For money? And replace with Tudgay? Jesus wept. Tha can tell thaz only been watching us for 5 years.
I know who he is. I meant I don't know enough about the type of player he is. Don't understand your point re Mellis - he's hardly going to slag off his team mate is he?
Can you tell me what you're basing that on, please? Btw, I'm not suggesting he plays midfield. But I do know he topped the pre season fitness tests... which went down well.
Got to agree. No doubt if he was put there he'd be slated for not being mobile enough. Just like he was 5 years ago when Davey played him there.
If you want to through a stat around like that how many of Bales first 20 Tottenham appearances did they win? I would have to go through every goal but because you concede doesn't make it the defenders fault. People just want to get on the back of a player, it's happened before to the year befores POTY. If you was in the away end the most shouts you could hear was Paddy, pass the ******* ball. By sell i meant get them out of the club. I wasn't really saying for money as such. Although i think we would get money for Dagnall, maybe 100K but i think the club would. I would also sell if possible a few more players. Don't think Etuhu OR Dawson are needed.
I'm sure I remember him getting stick when he played in midfield. Actually i said to a few people it's not is fault and he was just doing is best.
