Hassell has a better goalscoring record for Barnsley than all our current defensive midfielders put together and he's played most of his games further back than them and even one in goal... Etuhu Fox Perkins and Dawson between them have managed just 6 goals in 205 appearances (1 in 34) Hassell has 9 in 296 (1 in 33)
Me too. I don't think Perkins is too far away from that, but he should definitely score more goals. The middle three these last two games has been Perkins, McCourt and Mellis. Personally, I think that looks quite good. Nowt wrong with Bobby, I think he's a great player. If we're playing a back three he'd be first on my team sheet. If we're not, he'd be on the bench, but would be the first to be brought on if we needed to shore it up. But with the set-up Mellon has gone for I reckon the above three will offer us more.
You see I thought the same until I was asked to play there instead of centre half. I thought I'd run around and rattle in to tackles. The game completely passed me by. It's all about positional play, decision-making and reading the game. In fact it's probably the hardest position I've played in
Yes he can. Just because he's not played particularly well this season so far doesn't mean he can't. Big difference between being a poor player and playing poorly which is what I think Perkins & Etuhu have done this season so far. Doesn't make them 'toilers'.
In agreement with that conan. Bobby is a better footballer than the rest. He can pass a ball well, his control is spot on, he can tackle and break play up, but above all else he reads the game better.
hassell scores just less than one a season (Goal every 44 and half games) and when you consider that a few of them will be from freekick corners via head (Watford and Newcastle to name two) hes does out do Perkins. Hes not got the Energy Perkins as even though they are both in there early 30's
In a 3 with Mellis and McCourt Perkins is a reasonable player. Though conversations like this make me yearn for journeymen of yesteryear like Jim Dobbin who would stroll into our current team.
so in conclusion then we agree that the defender who has played in goal for us and under the last two poor managers has come off the bench quite a few times has a far better goalscoring record than the 90 minute midfielder do we? hassell: 1 in 32.8 perkins: 1 in 47.5
Let's be honest I like Bobby a good bloke, quality player not the answer to our midfield woes. All this petty squabbling gets a bit old doesn't it. Based on ability he should be in and around the team though not as first puck these days. Perkins is a decent player when he has players around him to pass to.
No because scoring a few goals means ****. As i put earlier, Busquets scored 5 goals in about 160 games and 0 in 63 for Spain. And guess what, he means F All for him too. Perkins does a lot of good for BFC.
So because goals mean nothing in football apparently you refuse to acknowledge that Hassell's goalscoring record is better than perkins? odd
Hassell will provide more of a threat from set pieces but not from open play. If it's got to the point where one of the reasons we pick a player over another is because he's statistically 0.9% more likely to score a goal then I think it's time we just left it to the manager.
