I suspect your right. One way around that might be to defer the nine points to next season, after all it’s been allowed to drag on this long, why not another season.
The problem is club sizes present a paradox when they go bust Sponsorships, rivalries, attendance and TV numbers mean that big clubs can’t easily be replaced within the context of the league Yet the lack of local capacity, funding and continuous football - not to mentioned drained local belief in the sport - mean that small clubs can’t easily be replaced within their communities It’s unfair and wrong but I get why EFL leans to the former - just wish they wouldn’t
Disagree entirely. The 'big clubs' are only the big clubs because they've been getting a disproportionate amount of airtime on TV. Neutral fans aren't just going to stop watching football if Derby county aren't on TV anymore, they'll watch the games that replace them.
Can’t help but think they’ll get away with it…. I know it’s the rules an all that regarding points deductions & I absolutely 100% agree they should be getting the full 21 points.
I cannot see why it will not be a 21 point deduction. Two seperate rules are breached so it simply must be 21 points.
I cannot see any other outcome but a 21 point deduction. They have breached two seperate rules, so it simply must be both punishments.
If I werea director facing the situation Derby is, I think I'd just say give us the 12 and 9 point deductions now, and get them out of the way. Start a fresh in League 1 next year. The last thing I would want is letting things rumble on, going down anyway thanks to the 12 point hit, then the EFL deciding the 9 points will be applied next season, meaning staying in L1 would even be a struggle. As a Barnsley and football fan who wants to see the league be as fair as possible, I want the opposite to happen. It's the only way to stop clubs thinking cheating financially is a risk worth taking.
It sounds though EFL are chickening out of points deduction again. What is it with Derby and Wendy's what hold have they got over EFL. it absolutely stinks
Just seen a news story about Derby saying their punishment could be 24 points, should bother the playing staff and Rooney not be paid by the end of Septmber.
Continually blames COVID-19. Sure that might have been the final nail but the coffin was substantially built years ago.
I get why fans of a medium sized club like ours want to think that but it’s simply not the full picture. The ‘big clubs’ are big in part because they larger fan bases and catchments and drawing power and growth potential. A league with Wednesday, Sunderland, Derby and Bolton is an easier sell and more attractive advert/ rights purchase because it’s going to draw more viewers - both in terms of neutrals but also those fans and other fans - than a league with Rotherham, Burton, Wycombe and the likes. Crappy but its the business - hence why the EFL will do everything to avoid a big draw from going bust - they’re simply not replaceable.
I've just read the BBC report and nowhere does it mention the separate 9 point deduction. Tell me they haven't got away with that now they've gone into admin!!
About time - as others have said in the thread above really sorry for their suppliers and non playing staff but there has to be a stop to this living well outside their means- -12 and they may still stay up, add another 9 or 12 point deduction and its hard to see them avoiding playing the Massives next season if they are able to continue at all
A lot of their fans seem to think a new owner will be found, they'll be able to avoid losing players in January and even be allowed to strengthen. Cloud cuckoo land.
