You don't trust them to turn down bids for players, despite us repeatedly doing just that in the summer?

This is a good one, mate of mine thinks Cole is ***** and hopes we sell him………told him earlier he’s essentially out prized asset and he replied back with laughing emojis……now unless I’m missing somet, without him this year we’d be no where near the top of the league…….our fans are pathetic at times

But that would be a guaranteed £2.5m v an unlikely £8m. A bird in the hand and all that. I imagine our board would snatch the hand off someone offering a lot less than £2.5m.

He’s bound to leave anyway. Only once since Brian Joicey has a Reds striker got 20 in a season and Cole is very close to it.

But crikey, how many would Joicey have got in this division?!

I can’t see it being true either. Given our next highest scorers have 6 each I’d say selling him pretty much would write the season off fr what I suspect would be a lot less.

Andy Payton got 20, thought Winnal got 21, could be wrong

Or David Currie. Or even prime time Sam Winnall.

Winnall is the only player since Joicey to score 20 league goals. Payton got 20 in all comps. 17 on the league. Currie got 20 with 16 in the league

As great as £2.5 mill sounds, think of what might be on offer if he helps us to win promotion. Yeah its a difficult one, and if it did prove to be a genuine offer, this lot have got to really think about it.
And would they do it right at the end of January, and would they accept it in low monthly installments etc.

I loved David Currie, it was brilliant to have a striker that could beat a man and create his own chances but still get on the end of a 50yard through ball from Futcher.

And then some. If he beats Winnall's total (which I'm sure he will barring injury or being sold) he'll be our highest league scorer since Brian Joicey got 26 in 1976-77. If he gets anywhere near Joicey's total, he'll be one of our highest post-war goalscorers, in such esteemed company as Tommy Taylor, Lol Chappel and Tony Leighton. Cec McCormack's 33 is probably a stretch too far, but Joicey's 26 isn't remotely outrageous as a target with 20 games left.

Absolutely fantastic for Cole to potentially be one of our highest scorers in over 40 years.
Duff worked wonders for Coles confidence by showing belief in him at the beginning of last season when most fans had very unfairly written him off even though he'd hardly had a fair crack at it in his first season.

Yeah, I think there's a lot to be said for that. I also think Cole benefitted hugely from playing alongside Norwood. I'm sure he must have learned a lot from him.

Cole did ok last season, but he has played better this season than I thought he could. I suspect Jon Stead, who was a decent striker himself, may have been doing quite a lot of work with him.

I don't agree. I want to see us promoted, and our chances of achieving promotion will be damaged very greatly, if Cole leaves us in this window.

A £2.5 million offer makes sense to me. A club making that offer e.g. Wednesday, may see Cole as the man to save them from relegation. They would probably see that as better business than signing him on a free after they have been relegated.

I wonder if Cole just doesn’t see the benefit of moving now? He can move to the highest bidder at the bottom of the Championship now, or wait until the summer then move on a free with more options available, and collect a chunky signing on bonus.
He’s also halfway through his best ever season. He could end up on 30 goals if he stays. For someone with a nomadic career so far, the idea of a monster scoring season might be appealing!

Probably not true but 2.5 million is alot for a player at 30 with 6 months left.

If anyone is serious about buying Cole this window, we really do hold all the cards. Either pay silly money for him with most or all of the fee upfront, or we'll let him run his contract down and he'll leave with our very best wishes in the summer.

28.. 29 in May but I get what you mean.. lot of clubs desperate for a goalscorer. I'd be happy either way, if he stays great.. if he goes and it is 2.5mil then that's fine also. Must be hard for the board cos this must be the only chance to reep any money back in the foreseeable..
