Yes £4million seems like we had their pants down, but then we found out how that money is being paid, not up front, which is no good to us when we need to bring in replacements.
Hes joint 3rd top scorer in the league I'd rather we keep him than lose him and he was top scorer for us last season. You said time for Cosgrove to step up but what makes you think he will? Your logic is mind boggling. Sell Cole for peanuts hope someone else can step up.
He's not average though is he? There are 24 teams in the league - so that's 48 starting forwards (on average). He's 3rd top scorer.
Some people haven't liked him since he came and don't appear to be able to have their opinion changed despite how many goals the lad scores.
If its the difference between top6 and a chance of promotion and midtable I'd rather we said no. Glad your not in charge.
And our club have always rolled over and let em take whatever they want and got bugger all in return. We are their soft touch and it's our club that needs to change and tell the piggies to do one for once instead of rolling over for a tummy tickle and a pat on the head.
Yep he will never win some over. Same with many players once their minds are made up there's no changing them.
I admit I didn't rate him so highly at first - but he seems to have improved, this season especially. You can't argue with the numbers - it's the same with Collins.
I don't think Tarntyke expects us to get that for him, more that if we were offered any less than that, there's no point in selling him. We'll find it difficult to replace the goals he's scored this season in this window, so is there any value in letting him go for half a million. I get that we'll lose him for nothing in the summer, but if we're going to mount a challenge in the top 6, we could do with Cole being here for the remainder of the season. I reckon he's one worth losing on a free when his deal runs out.
Bang average?….you are talking some right *****, if he were bang average we wouldn’t even be having conversation about him being sought after
This. Similar situation to when Mowatt was coming to the end of his contract. Touting an in form championship midfielder with six months on his contract might have netted us a 6-7 figure fee, but I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t have made the playoffs without him. Crucial in that push for promotion.
Keep him, do not let him go now. Then we still have the chance of a playoff place and a few more months for both parties to decide his future. If we go up (!!!!!!) he might want to stay, if we don't then there's nothing lost and let him leave. The worst thing would be to sell him now and then regret it. A typical BFC ploy.
Let’s face it when he signed from Motherwell on a 3 yr deal there weren’t many Barnsley fans raving about him , personally I thought it was crackers , had been in free fall in his career with his best spell at Motherwell before he came and that was hardly spectacular. . I think he owes the club for the faith they showed in him
IMO, the reason why fans haven’t taken to Cole, is simply because of his perceived body language and minimal interaction with fans at times. I do however think, some of this is just how he is, and that we shouldn’t read too much into it. He always said it was a mistake to leave us last time, and regrets that he did - the grass isn’t always greener. With the right manager and team, he’s a decent L1 striker. Is he a Champ Striker - I think not. He reminds me of Woodrow in this respect, in that he’s not good enough for the next level up. Will he stay? Who knows - but I don’t think it’s a straight money issue in regards him moving. Wednesday don’t seem the right club - I think he’d want someone who was more settled in the Champ. But he’s getting to that age where he needs some decent wages to bank away for when he’s retired.
Why is that no good- if we are paying more than peanuts for someone we would do a structured deal the same way - I dont see any issue there its how most deals are done
He doesn't owe the club anything. He signed a three year deal, and even if he leaves this month, will likely end up being top scorer for 2 of those 3 seasons.
But in turn we will then be paying installments for the players we bought. Nobody pays lump sums any more. Its usually paid over the length of a contract- that's why Chelsea give 8 year contracts, so they have loads of time to pay the 100m fees.
No big loss if he goes sane with rest of strikers including or especially them on loan. We need3 new strikers if any stop for me it would be Cosgrove although he’s not impressed so far.
