I've never believed that referees cheat, theres either good refs or bad refs.
Thinking back to the night at S6 and the events that happened then add all that to the Liverpool debacle it makes you wonder the referees mind set at Oakwell. If we took the evidence on offer to court would Willard have been found guilty of being a bad ref. or guilty of being a cheat.
Its over to you the jurors.

Which ever it was it proper wound him up and affected him. I was sat right at the front of the ponte that season and you could see the hate in his eyes.

Never say never look at Calciopoli scandal, then there was the ref who took a bung for 2nd leg of European Cup semi Derby v Juventus, I'd like to think it's a very rare but there will be others.
Cheating and conning the ref however from players has increased immensely and as you say there's just some poor and weak refs that get sucked in by clever players.
Phillips sending off at Wembley was definitely influenced by a couple of their players straight away getting around the ref.

I've watched both those incidents back from Wembley last season and can't for the life of me get my head around them.

There's a long history of refs cheating, it happened in the past and we would be naive in the extreme to think we live in some kind of golden age of honesty where it wouldn't happen again, or hasn't happened without someone getting caught at it. You don't need to be a conspiracy theorist - You just have to ask yourself, what walk of life has not been open to corruption, cheating, lies, cover-ups, bribes, blackmail..? It's human nature, and refs are humans like the rest of us.

Look at the play off final. A bloke earning about a grand a week deciding a game worth £6m to the winners. If you had to tailor make the perfect conditions for bribery to take place its pretty mich exactly the circumstances you'd choose. If people think there's no corruption in modern football i've got a bridge to sell them...

Funny how he did us twice in important games and if you don't believe in cheats, then take a look at italy, it happens all over the world, it just hasn't been proven here yet
