Mel Machin had just been appointed manager less than a month before the match concerned so I doubt Dennis was tapping up someone else..
Matt Le Tissiers goal against us in League Cup at Oakwell quite rightly got some home fans applause. What a goal.
I didn't. We were a bit late to the game and the stewards wouldn't let us into the ground. They did however allow a group of qpr fans in in front of us which made me awfully cross
Arsenal were unreal that day, especially Bergkamp. The first half was pretty even, unsurprising given what was a stake for both sides. Then out of nothing, Bergkamp scored one of the best goals I've ever seen. Wonderful player, and looking back on it a joy to watch, our own disappointment notwithstanding.
I remember being a kid sat in the east stand and saw 2 barnsley fans fighting with each other at the final whistle.
I think that the disappointment of the Spurs game took a lot out of us mentally, but I wouldn't say we made it easy for them. We more than matched them for the first half, without ever really threatening. They were just better than us, as they were better than everyone that season.
