Pathetic behaviour by the boo boys. Whether they're booing the choice of MoM or whatever, it's a reds player's name announced followed by a chorus of negativity. Bet that made Paddy feel like he's made the correct decision to turn down several offers to come here. Oh well. Not too long til January.
Agree 1000%. Pathetic gesture, which achieves nothing whatsoever. McCourt may well be sat somewhere thinking '**** you then'. MOM is an entirely commercial gesture, offered to someone for sponsoring it. It's literally one persons view. If the idiot boo boys want to choose someone, they should fcukin pay for it. Senseless.
That's how I saw it. Paddy wasn't being booed. The MOTM sponsor was being booed for just giving it to him so they can meet him when he clearly wasn't the best.
What is the difference? They may have been booing the decision but doesn't that suggest they thought the very idea that Paddy was MoM was so ludicrous and wrong that it deserved a chorus of boo's. Direct or indirect I bet the boo's made Paddy feel really special.
It's chosen by a sponsor who probably goes to that match only. To them, they just pick the one player who's made their afternoon half enjoyable. To the rest of us, they chose a player who had a very substandard performance by his own standards, and the numpties who take the MOM award seriously, boo said individual.
Paddy didn't even go to the man of the match presentation. M'Voto did. Even Barry Murphy questioned the decision
Lots of dancing around, no end product, gave the ball away too easily and didn't track back. Thought Perkins or O'Brien myself. p.s. I didn't boo and didn't actually hear any. I did hear people saying that they didn't agree.
I asked the question because I thought I heard booing, but wasn't sure if I'd missed something else that explained it, rather than it being directed at McCourt. I understand now from the responses to the thread, even if I do think booing the MoM announcement is barmy. I suspect McCourt is going to divide us all for the time he's here. I don't think he had a great game yesterday, but he had a dribble in the first half that if he'd finished would have been as good as the Boro goal, he should have had a pen in the 2nd half, and he put a great ball onto O'Grady's head in the dying seconds. That to me is more 'end product' than anyone else in red offered yesterday. And that's the crux of it. McCourt can and will make things happen whenever he's on the pitch, but we'll have to carry him the rest of the time. Some people like that kind of footballer, others don't. We all wish he could do it more often, that he worked harder and was a more effective team player. But if he had all that, he wouldn't be here.
