    AND..........when we saw David Hirst

....................even the numpties knew that they were seeing something very very special.....even after 2 or 3 games............and he was only 17 years old.

AND AND.........I have yet to see a striker play in the same style as Hirsty...........i.e.......pick up the ball and charge like a raging bull directly towards the MIDDLE of the opponents goal..........which resulted in wild panic in the opponents defence.

If a defender tried to get near him he then released a thunder bolt of a shot

    Re: FFS Whitey........Whos knocking Butters...............????????.........!!!!!!!!!!

"There was talent already there in Butters but Keeflicker has brought him on and now he is an excellent player THE BEST AT THE CLUB.
However, Digby is just 17................if you compare players at just 17 then Digby is far the better player.....only being proceeded by the GREAT GREAT David Hirst"

Ok, I'm reading the words, but at the risk of sounding likema tw@t, I watched Butterfield at 16/17, and like most of those that saw him at the time, I said he'd be a reight player. He was head and shoulders above the rest.

Since he got in the first team, I've seen very few people say owt else. Yes, he's matured under Hill & Flicker, but I think he's good enough to have done that for any manager given the same game time. Credit due to the player as well as the boss.

Now Digby looks like he's got the same 'aura,' and that's great news for BFC. If we turn out players at this standard every few years, we'll be better for it. Saw him in the pre-season games and couldn't believe he was 16 years old.

And last of all, i'll go with your point on Danny Rose. Looks to have similar attributes to a young Michael Owen to me - great movement, plenty of pace and bags of confidence. I'd have him in the first team ASAP.

    Thanks KFC.
I duno what Nudgers going on about tbh. I never said anybody was knocking Butts. I just remember him at the same age as Digby, and seeing as much talent if not more.
I hope Digby excels for us, but lets ease up with the "best since Hirst" ******. Dave Watson, Nicky Eaden, Carl Tiler, Butts, and even Antony Kay have done more to warrant that tag than young Digby - at the moment

    Explained........

Whitey said...............Bl00dy bewilders me how folk think he only had a good 4 month. He has had a better 4 month then at 21, than any other kid in a long time at Oakwell. But no, after 2 and a half games Digby is the best ever. I repeat - build em up to knock em darn

Nudger is saying............who is building them up (e.g. Butters) to knock em darn????????? Because YN isn't doing this. I think Butters is one of the best players in the Championship. But compare them at 17 and Digby is better. In my time of watching the TARN no other player as impressed more as a 17 year old, other than David Hirst.

But Whitey is doing exactly what he says we shouldn't be doing...........knocking young players down.......you only have to read his comments relating to Digby

I've been really impressed with him

Hopefully, when he has off days (and he will), he'll receive encouragement and support from all the fans. The last thing he, or any young lad needs, is people highlighting perceived problems to the detriment of the player's strengths. If they receive abuse for making mistakes, it helps no one.

Nudger, I havent belittled Digby, pray tell me where I have..
I just dont go along with this culture of building kids up to then eventually knock em down.
Why add the burden of expectation?
Let em develop, its different strokes for each player, each generation, IMO

I'd say the last thing he needs at this moment is being compared to David Hirst.

He's doing well, it's good to hear he's signed a new contract, now lets give him time to mature without us all going mental.

I took him to the club as a 12yr old. Fought for his signature as other clubs were prowling. He was always going to be a top player despite negative vibes and genral lack of belief by certain people at the academy. Good to hear that my persistance is now reaping the rewards. best of luck to the lad.
