Genuine question: how many games have you watched him start? You ever seen him get given 4 or 5 games in a row? Players, especially young ones, often have their confidence knocked and become more negative if they fear the crowd will jump on their every mistake. Or if they make an error they will get dropped. And the fitness issue has been covered. He's supposedly now over his injuries, improved his stamina and his agility. He's 20 and on trial at Man United. Sometimes I think it's our fans that no **** all about football instead of all the professionals...
People are wanting explanations why he isn't a good player... Can i hear why he's a good player? I haven't seen a reason yet...
IMHO Digger Should have been loaned out to gain fitness and confidence. He wasn't given that opportunity, instead was frozen out of first team all together then brought back in when we had injuries. Into a side that was then low on confidence, and having not had any regular first team action was it any surprise that he wasn't upto the speed of the game, or passes went astray because of his lack of match fitness/sharpness... Not the best return from long injury lay off by any means but Instead of supporting him, he got slammed. Yet at age 16/17 he stepped into the first team with MOTM performances. Youth international, asked to train with the senior international squad and Man Utd ask to take him on trial. Are you lot overly critical of the lad or are others seeing something that isn't there?
If he did make the move to Man U. Perhaps the best move for him to get him back on track and I would be surprised to see him in the premier league if that happens and he can stay injury free. Similar player to Carrick IMHO not a fans favourite. But pulls strings in midfield.
I wish Digby all the best whatever happens in his career but what I witnessed from him, admittedly I have not witnessed every performance, has been Shire Horse material. Maybe it's the injuries holding him back.
Because those within oakwell say he is easily the most technically accomplished player to come through the academy. Before the injuries he was considered a better prospect than stones. He was able to run a game from central midfield, knowing when to pass short or when to put a 60 yard pass onto a sixpence for a forward. He had the maturity to dictate play when he was 16 and playing for the reserves. His first touch, awareness of those around him and the knowledge of when to hold and when to push forward meant every manager who has worked with him has seen the ability to go all the way. Sadly very serious injury robbed him of 2 years of development between 17 and 18. But like others have said. In a handful of games where he was thrown in for 20 or 45 mins he passed the ball backwards, and looked unfit. Nothing to do with nerves or anything...
The same Allan Clarke that said David Speddie would never make a footballer. So he sold him for next to nothing.
Ok thank, Im happy for him to stay and have his chance in 4-5 game run but if Man Utd offered a million now i'd take it and drive him there myself. He isn't going to make it in the Premier League, Championship at most.

Well said ! I would laugh my nuts off if we got £500,000 for him That would be some serious business for a player yet to perform for us.
In training Lee Johnson introduced a new rule for Digby, saying he couldn't pass back and if he did it was a free kick to the opposition. All the other players knew this and it forced him to alter his body shape when receiving the ball, improve his footwork etc in order to pass forward.
Banks suffered a ridiculous amount of abuse. Presumably from the same type of 'fans' that these days have the added advantage of doing it on forums like this as well as on match day. Didn't understand it then and still don't now.
When he first came on the scene as a young kid, I said at the time that he was the best young player I had seen since Hirsty. But Stones has come through the ranks since then. So I have always rated Digby - and although I don't know why he suddenly disappeared off the scene, he is reported to be injured all the time, and I have my suspicions why this might be. And its to do with how tall (6' 5"?) he is and how quickly he has grown in a relatively short space of time. When that happens bones grow quicker than the muscles that are attached to them - resulting in all sorts of injuries occuring especially achilles problems. I would say, if this is whats happened to him, then it is near impossible to be a footballer until his body settles down again.
