If anyone chooses to go shopping then that's their choice. What Keith Hill as manager of Barnsley FC has to do is to provide an attractive product so that people get more satisfaction watching Barnsley FC than the alternative. Less than 9000 home fans last Tuesday and not all of the home fans come from Barnsley. That's an awful lot of pathetic people in the borough.
Id have 'taken' a 0-0 draw before the game, BUT, I wouldnt ever play for one - big difference. Our second-halves are a joke tbh. I may get a 45 minute season ticket next year
sorry mate don't mean to moan or upset anyone just cannot see but cannot see how playing the bottom of the league with 6 defenders and 1 up front is a valid tactic he who dares wins
Just listened to the BBC interview very reasonable interview not negative at all unless your looking for a negative!
Playing for a 0-0 draw with no attempt to score a goal is just aslking for trouble Its one thing to make the opposition try to break you down and make it hard for them to score, but if you do that you should be trying to hit them on the break - but we didnt even try that. There is always a risk if you play solely to stop the opposition scoring that either an error or flash of brilliance will lead to a goal being conceded - which is what happened today Its a shame as we play well on the break but it seems that players werent allowed to go up to support any attacks so they all fizzled out We had one shot all game and I am sorry but we deserved to lose with such a negative approach
Re: Playing for a 0-0 draw with no attempt to score a goal is just aslking for troubl i'd have taken a draw before the game, but to go for it in the way we did today was wrong...at least put a fight up for a draw.....we were mid table, they were bottom,we should have gone out for three points...3 shots all match,1 on target and not one corner in the second half,,,,well worth the tickets and fuel costs!
I completely agree. I'm a big fan of Hill but playing a very poor team when we are virtually safe was a great opportunity to really go for it.
I don't disagree at all. I think we should have gone for it. I just can't understand the anger towards the notion of playing for a draw away from home. I might not agree with the decision but I can understand why a manager may make that decision, and let's be right, it was 3 minutes off working and Hill can hardly be accused of playing for draws every week!
I think most people can understand playing for a draw away from home against anyone in the top half of the table. They probably don't agree with it, but they can understand it. That understanding starts to fade as you move down the table until it fails to register at all when we adopt such tactics against the team at the very bottom. Understanding is replaced by an overwhelming desire to say ******* hell.
I just don't like this idea that a manager should be apologising to the fans every two minutes. If the team fails to try then the fans deserve an apology. But if they are beaten by a better team, or the manager thinks setting up his team to draw is the best tactics I dont think we are owed an apology. He got his tactics wrong today, the majority of posters have made that point reasonably. But some seem to think Keith Hill came round and voided himself in their fishtank
Neither do I And I've listened to his interview on the BBC Sport Website and I don't think there's anything wrong with it. But I reserve the right to be a bit pissed off. Not particularly because we lost, although the last minute goal was a kick in the teeth, but more because we didn't seem to bother trying to win. It's very difficult to give your unswerving support when your team isn't doing the most basic thing you ask of them, ie trying to win a football match. There's bound to be a few murmurs of dissent.
Agreed and it could end up putting us in a relegation battle. The pressure is on more now because if we lose next week it's going to get an whole lot harder. If you cannot be positive 14 points off the dropzone against a relegation candidate when can you be?
