But surely that's up to Mansfield? They could easily say no. Man Utd have had a similar situation this summer iirc with a player. They've paid over the odds for him because they didn't want to pay up front. As I say, none of us really know, but I just think that if we were serious about stumping up the money for him, and the money was available, we'd have done it by now.
I'd be completely against spending such fees on a single player. We've burned so much money on fees for players who have then not worked out and been offloaded or who have just run their contracts down. We've got an academy... Use it. Or frankly, close the thing down. But it seems stupid to try and bring kids through your own academy, but then sign and loan young kids that block off their pathway to the first team.
Get what you're saying, but even allowing for inflation I don't think we paid anything like 750k for any of those players. Bit of a risk spending what is probably our transfer budget on one player. As an aside, is any other club showing an interest in him?
Everyone seems to assume it’s us not having matched the valuation, it could equally be the deal is agreed in principal but Mansfield are delaying the completion for their own benefit. Like you say none of us know.
It could well be that. I'm just going by what I've read on their forum from someone claiming to be ITK. Personally, I don't see any benefit to them though for delaying a deal, other than if they think they'll get a bigger offer from someone else. Surely you'd want a situation like this resolved ASAP.
Or they are waiting for a replacement to confirm. Happens all the time where a club won’t sell until they have a replacement. Just had a quick look at their forum too and one of the ‘ITK’ posters is saying the player is not pushing for a move either that helps the selling club.
I agree with you. Mansfield aren’t without money, them signing one of top scorers in L2 last season (Evans from Newport) proves that. He will likely have cost £400k or so. Still think any forward player signings we make will be loans late in the window.
Closing the academy isn't something I would be against. It rarely gets us a first team regular and we must have lost a lot of millions over the years keeping it open.
Agree with this I don't mind us signing quality players that will improve us but these punts Shaw, Dallas and brining youngsters on loan that barely start is a waste. People say our academy players aren't ready, but when will they ever be ready without game time, trust me if we had a massive injury crisis they'd be ready then.
Arch.. that kinda reads like we're near deaths door.. with the board founding the club.. but let's look at what they are actually founding.. First team .. Under 23s Reserves Under 21s Under 18s academy The rest of the academy first years and below teams And now a ladies team.. Plus all the coaches medical and fitness staff to run the above we even have a No2 kitman now as kitman No1 must have too much to do.. Not to mention taking Khalids job and turning in to three jobs.. If the board are putting millions in a year then a hell of a lot is of there own making.. This club could be trimmed down a hell of a lot and not affect the first team. And maybe made stronger and better for it
They were funding the shortfall in revenue between the champ and league 1. I should imagine given the players who have left since then, the incoming fees we've received and the increase in TV revenue this season in particular, that we'll have closed that gap quite a lot. It does sound like changes are ongoing at the club, given the alleged outsourcing we've done of the media/photography over the last year or so. We were losing money hand over fist though prior to any injection from the board. I'm sure one of the financial types on here would be able to articulate it better than I can.
Yeah.. like the lad from Birmingham when it's made public and nothing happens within days it probably means it ain't going to happen and we've moved on. But it will keep the attention from the targets we are closer too.. no one wants a auction except a selling club.
£750k if that's what it is, technically peanuts at this level when we have reportedly only spent about £200k on Gent so far. Once you take into considerations the players who left and their wages, ongoing payments from previous transfers, increase in TV payments, solidarity payments from PL, EFL Central Money, cash injection from owners, there should easily be enough money in the coffers. If not we should be told where the black hole is located syphoning all the cash away. Add to that the risk vs reward ratio of getting back to the championship. Champ teams got a massive uplift in TV money, we need to be back in that tier ASAP before the gap widens.
I get that.. but since our relegation behind the scenes the club as not cut it's cloth to fit.. infact it's the opposite, it's grown. And if these owners are experienced business people which they undoubtedly are then by conclusion, it must be by design..
Deal in limbo at moment deal agreed last week at 500k Then Mansfield at the eleventh hour wanted £750000, There Owner a multi millionaire . We said no to that , they came back and said let’s speak after game Friday , The player none too happy wants to come and will probably start on Bench Friday .
Hope this is true but this guy they all claim is really reliable on their forum claims we aren’t even close
