Said it before... It's another Charlie Adam moment if this is what is going on. Whole rumour may be BS though.
It’s about statement of intent at this stage. Playing hardball & having short arms & long pockets is fine, but that’s sending out a message that the owners are happy to stagnate in league 1 for the foreseeable future, which in its own right is totally fine, speculate to accumulate, transition period etc, but unfortunately season ticket sales will only get lower year on year, same with merch sales, fan engagement etc. And if that is the case I would rather them be transparent about it & come out & say we haven’t got a pot to piss in so we need to take it steady for a few years & expect league 1 football for a while longer yet. Or we can push the boat a bit over £200k, which sends a message out to the fans that we are serious about mounting a promotion challenge. Therefore putting more bums on seats, & if said player becomes a fan favourite like he is at Mansfield, merch sales go up & so on. And if we do get promoted it’s a hell of a lot of extra money for us. If we don’t then we are stronger for the next season anyway, & it’s likely we’ll get a nice inflated price for him. Not a hard decision really is it.
https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2024/august/06/stags-sign-/ Missed out on one there. 21 league goals last season.
Just put this out there but maybe the inflated price rumour is BS and Mansfield were making sure they got Evans over the line before agreeing to let DKD move?
I believe so yes but I do think playing Mansfield first game of season has prevented this deal from happening already
It makes perfect sense doesn't it if the boot was on the other foot you would hope we would do the exactly the same.
One liner in a contract, or a gentleman's hand shake filmed on social media (both clubs) would allow it to be announced. He ain't gonna train with us regardless just yet
If there's any truth in this, I would definitely expect a no-play clause for the first match. I would expect us to do the same. We've signed players who haven't kicked a ball for weeks after they've signed. Missing the first game is nowt.
Seems to be picking up a bit of pace now this.. 750K being the fee mentioned. Was never going to be allowed to make his debut vs the selling club.
I think those "ITK" fans over in Mansfield need to get their stories straight. One saying he wants to stay and working on a new deal, another claiming DKD was upset that the deal is being held up by Mansfield and was set to start Friday's game on the bench! One of them is making up nonsense...
The one on their forum who appears to be the most respected is maintaining that a fee still hasn't been agreed.
