lets be honest, the cost isnt the only reason that crowds are dropping, as has been said many times by other posters if the team were doing well on a yearly basis fans would pay the money and turn up, ever since we came back up we have battled relegation and if the last 3 home games are anything to go by this year will be no different, no matter what the cost your not going to get people flocking to oakwell on a regular basis to watch a relegation fight year on year

It's nothing to do with all seater stadia its all about the price. £28 far is too much for our local economy. I have no problem at all staying away.

Lower league teams who have terraces charge less for standing though (for example look at Morecambe, brand new ground with terracing, terrace tickets are £14 and £15 for an adult ticket, seated £19 to £24) obviously the the ideal situation would have been for terraces to have been retained back in the 80s but we know why that didn't happen and there would be both a better atmosphere and cheaper tickets.

I think you are missing the point.

In addition going back to standing would have no influence over the amount of people who come to our games anyway. Our crowds are bigger still than they were back in the 80s when standing was all the rage.

IMHO the club need to be more forward thinking, speculate to accumulate from a PR and Marketing persepctive and get the town behind the effort. What they do now is half arsed 3rd division *****.

I work for a big corporate company and PR is everything, our brand is what set us above the rest in our competitive field however in the football clubs case we are poorly competiting with teams we have a bigger pulling power and better on field product than. If we cant get them back after a 5 nil hammering against a big club like Brum then without some out of the box thinking we are ****** with the current boards vision.

Its crying out for someone with a bit a foresight and goal setting. I work with about 50 people in our offices that would run the club with a bit more enterprise than what we have now, all with zero football experience but know what makes money.

It isnt rocket science. It just takes vision, a pair of ******** and the principles to communicate to your customer base and people will follow especially when your onfield product is reasonably good at the moment. I'm on the verge of coming back into the ST world, I'm the new floater after years of being a ST holder 10 years back. I just dont feel the club try ard enough or with any enterprise to get me back.

Since the club is either going to be bought or handed over to someone else to run then changes are coming soon.

Totally agree pal, glad someone has said it. Tuesday topped it off for me. As a non Barnsley resident I find it embarrassing and laughable at the the crowds we get at home. However last Saturday was everything that makes me proud to support a small club, the atmosphere was better than you get in 10 games at Oakwell.

People can moan about the price etc but its a culture thing. Is it any cheaper to get in at Hudds? They were getting better crowds in league 1 than we were getting in Champ.

We are not a well supported club, the majority of people in Barnsley have zero interest in football, they would rather got to Meadowhall or get pissed.

The product this season has not been this good for a number of years and yet the crowds are falling. The management has not been this good since Wilson, I'd argue Hill and Flicker are the most popular in my lifetime.

The moaning from sections of the crowd on Tuesday and lack of belief was unsettling. It's a good job the players stuck to their guns and got a result and believed in the footballing philosophy because the numpties around me gave up a long time ago, they should stay at home and watch telly, which ironically would reduce the crowd.

There was a song sung last Saturday: "we play on the ground, we play on the ground, we are Barnsley FC, we play on the ground"

Like i said the product has never been better, yet it's not enough to satisfy some in the ground let alone tempt the fickle folk mooching around town on a Saturday.

I don't agree with your point of our towns people have zero interest in football, to take around 35,000 to Wembley on both occasions was incredible for the town the size of ours. You're comparing us to Huddersfield, yes their average is higher but that's all they can attract, the struggled to get past the 20,000 mark for their big Wembley day out last year. It's the recession, end of not to do with the town not being interested in football.
