You're out of touch with the current Premier League market mate

Jordan Henderson went to Anfield for £16 million. Is he that much better than Butterfield? Butterfield's contract expiry and injury may have reduced the fee by a fair bit but he's got to be worth £3 million at today's prices.

According to radio DEE-DARR we want £500,000 for buttercup, and Norwich had offered nowhere near that price. :frown:

How many young midfieldes around are there who are equally good on both feet? Not many.
Jacobs got raw ingredients to be a top player, provided he can keep his head from inflating to the size of a beach ball and play for the team rather than himself like he did at times last season for us.
Think he'll be a succesd at Narwich, reckon he'll be a regular looking at their squad list.
Wouldnt be at all surprised if he goes to an Everton or a Villa for£6/7million in a couple of years time

I see what Simon means here. Say Butterfield is worth £2m, is Henderson really worth 8 Jacobs? Just as is Cristiano Ronaldo (£80m) really 160 times better than Hammill (500k)??

If prices are ridiculously inflated for top players, they should be for Championship players too

Henderson 8 times better than Buttercup? - probably
Ronaldo 160 times better than Hammill? - defo!

and the prices SHOULD be inflated the same for the Championship but they NEVER have been and NEVER will be.

Re: You're out of touch with the current Premier League market mate

Did I suggest Butter *field/cup (Delete as appropriate) was worth as much as Jordan Henderson? I'm basing the £3 million estimate at today's prices for young Premier League midfielders. Liverpool paid £16 million for an average young midfielder who has netted 7 times in 128 league appearances for Sunderland & Liverpool. Whether you like it or not, Butter *field/cup (Delete as appropriate) was one of the top young midfielders in the Championship last season and should be valued accordingly. Funny how teams like Leeds get top dollar for their midfielders Howson, Fabian Delph £2 million and £8 million respectively. Are they any better than Butter *field/cup (Delete as appropriate)?

You've got a real downer on Butterfield for some reason. Jordan Henderson????? get real - he's not even rated by his own fans never mind you. All Liverpool fans will tell you that they were robbed blind by Sunderland at £16 million. But, if that's the market price for young midfielders of Premier League standard then Butterfield is easily worth £3 million. It's like the housing market, if a 3-bedroom detached is worth £300,000 then a 3-bed semi in the same league has to be worth £150,000

It's irrelevant how much Barnsley value him, unless something is agreed its going to be upto some fat blokes in suits to value him.

In terms of value of a player, I look at what people are willing to pay and market conditions. Leicester just paid £1million for a Fleetwood striker who was at Stocksbridge two years ago. And we're debating whether our two footed, creative, goal getting midfielder who's been in the England Under 21's is worth that much? You see League One players like Pilkington going for over a million, so he's certainly worth that I'd say. My valuation in the current market would be around £1.8million. Of course, we won't get anything like that for various reasons, some avoidable, some not.

Re: You're out of touch with the current Premier League market mate

Up to last season he was an infrequent starter for us. Due to injury he played only half our games last season. Difficult to see how a tribunal will place a high value on him in the light of that. His value to us lay in his potential.

Anyway, he's gone. It's onwards and upwards in Keefy's House of Fun.

If we were picking in the playground I'd have taken Mellis first.

    Nahthen!

We'll have to ask in excess of £2 million in order to get amounts you have mentioned

Tribunal is unlikely to go anywhere neat the club's true valuation therefore ask for more. its not rocket science.
