Re: Not at present.........but potentially they are a business rival

I was discussing this the other day at work, with a Wednesday fan and a Leeds fan. The Leeds fan doesn't consider any Yorkshire teams as rivals other than it's a derby, to them it's still Man Utd! The Wednesday fan said it's just United for them, and was asking me who our rivals are and I said that the ones we really want to beat are the Sheffield clubs and Leeds. To me I think it comes from people in the town supporting these clus, so in that respect Doncaster aren't on my radar. Yes I want to beat them but no more so than if we were playing Huddersfield or Rotherham.
It also has a lot to do with fans you come into contact with, I worked in Leeds for 12 years so worked with loads of Leeds fans....that's what really built up my dislike of the club and makes that, to me, the one team I really want us to beat. I've never had that much regular contact with fans of the Sheffield clubs though I do now work with a couple of Wednesday fans.....one is ok and you can have a decent rational conversaton with him, actually met up with him before the opening game at Hillsorough a couple of seasons ago when we drew and then went out in Sheffield with him after. The other one just talks utter ****e all the time!

    Some stats

    Doncaster W 22 D 17 L 22
    Rotherham W 17 D 16 L 17
    Sheff Utd W 14 D 20 L 24
    Sheff Weds W 20 D 12 L 26
    Leeds W 16 D 15 L 17

Come out better than Rotherham in cups and level with Blades, worse with other 3.

Stats courtesy of Soccerbase. This proves nothing just thought maybe of interest.

Personally hate Sow-ls and have soft spot for Rotherham.

I remember going to Donny as a kid..

When I was 13, 14 and the Reds were away from home on a weekend, I often went to Donny Dome as I had a thing for Ice Skating back then. And it was next to Belle Vue and I swear there was more people in the Dome than in the ground. And what a sh*thole!
Basically, from following the Tarn at Oakwell as a nipper in the late 80's, Donny were just irrelevant. 4th Division, Non-League etc. With gates of just over a thousand.
But they have climbed the leagues and over the last few years we have played a lot of games, so of course a rivalry has grown. And with them now pulling in similar gates, in the same tier, and now out-spending us for probably the first time ever, then yes I want to beat them more than most teams in our division. Not as much as Leeds, but probably as much as Forest...
The team I hate, or want to beat the most though is without question Sheffield Wednesday.
The main reason being that as a lad growing up and going to school in Elsecar thru the 80's and 90's, most of my mates were Wednesday-ites. The rest were Liverpool. And then there were 2 brothers who supported Sheff Utd, and a Leeds fan. But I was honestly the only Tarn fan growing up. A lot of my mates dads actually supported Tarn but yet their sons didnt. I suppose they were a MASSIVE club back then so its to be expected. I went to Wath Comp in the 90's and that was even more awash with the Wendy shirt wearing numpties. Although, the Liverpool fans soon disappeared to be replaced by MANY Man Utd fans... fickle, glory hunters.
I was proud as punch wearing my mint green away shirt in PE, or my circa 94 home kit. I used to get a lot of stick for supporting Tarn, until I was 14, and then all of a sudden other lads turned up in our kit. All because we were going to the Prem. Fickle, bandwagon jumpers...
So Id put Wendy at the top of my wish (to hammer) list.
Then Man Utd and Liverpool, to wind up my mates. Plus, they actually ARE massive.
Then its Blunts, Leeds, Rovrum and Hudders. With the Gypsys coming in at the rear with Forest, Chesterfield, Hull, Grimsby and Scunny..
BUT. . . . THERES ONLY ONE TEAM IN YORKSHIRE! :D
