I would. It's not that long ago we were beating them 4-0.

RE: I know exactly why Chelsea are doing it

As do I, and it seems like BFC are just being fair to Scott, and they're not going to complain if Chelsea give them a decent sum for him are they?

    That's the point

If we make it obvious that we're quite prepared to let him go, as we have done by letting him go on trial, that decent sum will be far less than if we told Chelsea we could only consider letting him go at the right price.

I'm very pleased for Scott, it's a tremendous opportunity. But as the board keep telling us, Barnsley FC is a business and we're not in the business of doing the right thing for premiership football clubs.

Can you imagine Everton letting Rooney go on trial at Man Utd for a week before he made his move there?

Everton and Manchester United cannot be compared to Barnsley and Chelsea in my opinion, it's the small club big club scenario here.

Chelsea may be looking at more than one young English keeper, so to give Chelsea an ultimatum or a set price may put them off, because they can't have a closer look.

Don't we want to try to put them off a bit?

Surely we want to try to keep Flinders? I thought that would be the best outcome, keeping one of our best prospects. You seem to be arguing for the best way of getting rid of him.

Personally, I'd let him go, for his own good/career

As a team, it would be good to keep hold of him, because he is a fantastic prospect, he will go far in the game.

The only positive for BFC for Scott to move on would be financially, in my opinion.

I'm glad you're not our chairman John

Although I wouldn't want to block a chance for Scott to play for a top club, my first priority would be to BFC. I'd try to convinvce him to stay, but if his heart was set on leaving my next priority would be to get as much money for him as possible.

    Course we do

He's under 23 and come through our youth system. He's actually under 20. Clubs can't steal your young players. If they want him they'll have to pay for him.

If he's nearing his the end of his contract though...

we have to offer him better terms or comparable terms to others of the same standard or he can go for free. Summat like that anyway.

My view is that we won't and shouldn't for that matter stand in his way, however lets not jump the gun. They will only make an offer if he impresses enough to warrant a bid. People have already started to talk money on here and logically its stupid to talk in terms of £1m. ffs sake Chelsea aren't stupid they'll only pay what they think he's worth.

They'll know we're strapped for cash and try and get him as cheap as possible. Because it's Chelsea doesn't mean they'll pay an extra £500k!!

    My point was..

that if he is nearing the end of his contract, and Scott says that he would like to go on trial to Chelsea, would it be in our best interests to say no?

We say no- Scott's annoyed - won't sign a new deal if Chelsea don't come back in for him.
We say yes - Chelsea decide not to sign him - Scott has no reason to have an issue with us for holding him back, thus meaning he would sign a new deal?

If we offer him a deal equal or better to what he already has

Scott can't refuse it and go sign for someone else. He's our option until he's 23.

Not that I'm suggesting we should block a move. I'm suggesting we should listen to offers and if Chelsea meet our valuation and Scott wants to leave, then we should talk to them about it. In much the same way as Cardiff are dealing with Cameron Jerome and Southampton dealt with Theo Walcott. If Scott does want to leave we shouldn't stand in his way, but the move has got to be right for Barnsley. We're a football club with ambitions of our own. Ideally we want to keep our best players, but if that's not possible we want to get the best deal we can for them. We're not here to produce good players only to allow them to leave 'cos they're nice lads. If they want to go it's got to be for the right price.

    Thats what I meant.........

I'm with you on this Jay. My only gripe has been with people talkin cash on here. £1m this £2m that. At the end of the day Chelsea aren't going vastly increase their bid because its Chelsea, and thats what they do. They will only bid Silly money when they have competition, like in the Walcott case. They will pay the cheapest price necessary.

    You can see it now.....

Jose, "Roman, we have checked out a young Goalkeeper from Burnley, no barn, erm in Yorkshire, you know, erm?"

    Roman, " Manchester?"

Jose, "No, although they wear the red of the scummy english pig dog Barstewards"

    Roman, "Leeds?"

    Jose, "Who? Who are Leeds?"

Roman, on his intercom *beep* "Natasha you bitch get me the KGB and find out who the fook he's talkin about?

10 mins later up turns Andy Ritchie and Flinders in handcuffs.

It was you, Ade. Your fault.

"Gaz," he said, 'cos that's, what GS calls me. "Gaz," he said, "I always find your posts both funny and informative, demonstrating that enviable combination of a rapier-like wit with a highly-developed footballing knowledge. If people like you were the only people to frequent the BBS, I'd happily respond to any criticism or enquiry, no matter how much I ended up pissing myself laughing.

"However," he said - and these are his words, not mine - "that Guernsey Red is a total lovely person. Damned if I'm posting on the BBS after reading his B*ll*cks."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you know me: Honest as the day is octagonal.

And this brings me nicely back to the 'Academy' argument...

If he is out of contract this year - and I don't know if he is, but let's say he is for the sake of it - Chelsea's transfer fee would be what it has cost us to train him. Not the academy costs, wages and our valuation, but the total training costs. Which, in the greater scheme of things, is f**k all.

Waste of time, money and effort. Academies, that is: not Flinders.

He won't know much evn if he does....

Farnk Arneson might be the one who has set it up. His brief is to find the best young talent in the country. Wheres the best place to look? England under 19s, lets start with the goalkeeper.
