    Ah now I get it.

    Common sense.

So the law is only important when you consider a particular law sensible.
Otherwise it's just common sense to ignore it.

    Magic.

Remind me, which one were you, the police officer or the magistrate?

    Yes and no

A denture is a bespoke appliance individual to a particular patient.
In many cases, the clinical side of denture fabrication is not all that complicated. And in the more complex ones it is often detachment of the technician that complicates matters - if he/she could be present at appointments to see first hand what problems are faced in the more complex cases it would often make overcoming those difficulties much more summountable.  However, the profit margins on NHS dentures simply make this impossible.

In fact I would have no objection to technicians doing dentures at all - I think it would go some way to reducing workload on the overstretched dental services.  However it is only reasonable that they should undergo appropriate training, be regulated and insured and so on.  If we all competed on a level playing field I'd much rather spend my time on other aspects of treatment I personally find more interesting.  However, unlawful, unlicenced and unregulated practice of dentistry is wrong and should not be swept under the carpet by people wanting a quick saving.

    its same with anything though

when a profession over charges then consumers go elsewhere even if the means it is illegal. look at the music/games/movie industry.
