    O'Connell - headless chicken ........

....... says everything about some Barnsley fans who think if you run around, visibly trying your very, very best, you are a good footballer!

Ray Mchale was slaughtered constantly by the majority of our fans (as was Danny Wilson when he first signed for us) and both had more football ability in their little toes than O'Connell had in his entire body!

O'Connell scored 35 goals for us

Apart from Redfearn and Hignett I bet we haven't had a midfielder score that many goals since.

Brendan happens to be one of my all time faves.

He scored plenty of valuable goals and worked well both attacking and defensively, never moaned and just got on with the job. Not the most naturally gifted but then again the number of gifted players on that list post-1984 can be counted on the fingers of one hand (with three of the fingers removed).

Me too. That season he got Player of Year he was superb. He wasn't the greatest football technically, but he really did make up for it in graft. He was a big part of our team that year.
