and if they put a bar area in the ponty you would complain about having to pay 3.50 for a pint of piss
So... Don Rowing is "a nice bloke" is he? Well, good for him. I'm a nice bloke too, at times. But I'd rather have a complete **** in charge of operations at Oakwell if it meant we were run better as a club.
I would also applaud the fact that people have the opportunity to purchase said pint of piss and maybe put £3k into the club coffers every other Satdi. Just accept that it's poor for a club not to have a bar in a stand that holds 4,500 people.
Conan, you've got a reputation of being a miserable git cos you moan at every opportunity, but when the club do something positive you never praise.
Nobody said were a 4th division club.. Just run like one there is a diffrence. If were anything were a second tier club as we have spent more time there than anyone else.
The income of the club, both direct and indirect, is linked to its success on the field. To does not matter how much you pay a marketing team, if the product is not a good one, they will not be successful. Compared to many towns of our size, Barnsley has a successful football club. I am sure that Rotherham and Doncaster envy our recent history. It is time to put things in perspective. There are posters who have contributed to this discussion, who have been very critical of the club and its failed marketing ideas and lack of ambition and who have concluded their argument by stating that until things change, they will not be buying a season ticket. They say this without any appreciation of the irony contained in that statement. I know that people will throw the chicken and egg argument back at me, but let me be quite honest about this, the way to break the catch 22 situation that the club finds itself in is for more paying customers to have faith in their team and turn up, with their hard earned cash and support them. For me, the term supporter means someone who supports in good times and in bad.
If the match day price was £25 i think many more would come. I Know its only 3 quid but I think it makes a difference to peoples minds sets.
The match day price need only be £25 for Barnsley supporters with a three quid membership card or with supporters trust membership Barnsley match day prices are mid range with other championship clubs and season tickets amongst the cheapest. If people get down and support the club maybe there may be opportunities for some of the wish lists we see on here. Also if you want to see how much "the Don" does There is still time to enter the trust competition. Just think we could be paying £34 a match like Brighton fans or £40 like Leeds ...... Then we would be complaining Owen
Re: a Marketing Manager Every other club in our Division has a Marketing Manager and they're all making more money than us according to the Don. A lot of Marketing is pure common sense e.g. If you do your own catering, merchandising etc then you're going to make more money than by having a middle-man. You can also bolt on new ventures that make money. This 125 year anniversary has been seriously undervalued, I've been on the lookout for something special but have seen nothing aside from the beer/key ring/picture . They could have had an anniversary shirt to celebrate but because they've sold the merchandising rights to Nike, they can't be arsed. A shirt rakes in over £30 clear profit according to the former Newcastle chairman. Sell 3,000 anniversary shirts and you've got £90,000 to start with.
Re: 'Error on page' Unfortunately for the powers that be at oakwell whatever decisions they make will never please everyone. Thing is its easy for everyone to criticise sat behind a computer but do any of you think you could do better job? Back to issue regarding selling players, yes we have made mistakes and we need to learn but why does everyone feel the need to use the don as a scapegoat. What we need is a new structure at the club from top to bottom instead of relying soley on 1 man to then abuse him when he dosent satisfy someone's opinion.
I know that times are tough, and that some people have families and that they must come first. However, I cannot see that £3 would make much of a difference to those people. For the majority, they have withdrawn their support because they want to see a successful team, and currently, we are not successful and in the short term, are unlikely to change that situation. In those circumstances, we support in faith. In faith that some day, things will get better. If there were more people who continued to contribute to the club through the bad times, the good times would return sooner and more surely. I do not want to hear the views of those who no longer attend, especially when their view is that it is somebody else's fault.
Re: 'Error on page' Have you ever criticised a footballer ? Could you do any better ? If we are to stop criticism of anyone because those doing the criticising 'couldn't do any better' then the whole world will grind to a halt through mediocrity. I don't know if I personally could do any better than either Rowing or Taylor - what I do know is that what is happening currently is not good enough - and that comes from first hand experience as well.
