Lol. Pick first two winners and dont back em. Third one I back and loses me a fiver after Id backed the actual winner last time out. Racing!!

 

Thanks to everyones tips yesterday. I finally broke my duck with check Columbine in second race. Won again wi Maximillian summat later on too. Great day it was.

The Champagne Stakes (1.50) goes to Rosallion, but at 2/5 best price that's no use to us.

In the Portland (2.25) I was initially looking at Call Me Ginger and Dakota Gold. Call Me Ginger is chasing a hat trick, but is up another 4 lbs in a tougher race than last time, so his winning run may have come to an end. Michael Dodds is a fantastic trainer of sprinters and Dakota Gold usually manages a win at this time of year. But his form this season has not been encouraging, and he is now nine years old. I think for the most part, this is a very average renewal of the Portland. However, the three at the top of the handicap are all used to competing in a much higher grade. You can back Annaf, King's Lynn and Chipstead at 16/1, 8/1 and 10/1 respectively, which I make around a combined 11/4 chance. I like that combination, in the hope that class will tell. I think Annaf is particularly interesting, being trained by Barnsley lad Mick Appleby (successful yesterday with Big Evs). All bar one of his last seven outings have been in Group company, the most recent when beaten less than three and a half lengths in the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock. This might be a shrewd bit of placing.

I like Spycatcher in the Park Stakes (3.00). His Group 1 second in France last time ought to be good enough to win this, and trainer Karl Burke is back in form. His price is now very short however (11/8). Whether that represents value is debatable, but I've had him in a double with Mr Brightside, who has just gone in in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington (6.40 am - you've got to get up early to catch 'em!)

The St Leger is a great race, with lots of interest. I don't think there is much between the Gosden runners, and Frankie has switched. But they can't both be good enough to win a Leger, can they? In any event, I don't think Gregory will reverse the form with Continuous, even on three pounds better terms. Desert Hero would be a fantastic story, with the King and Queen visiting Town Moor this afternoon. But I don't make his form up to the level of the main O'Brien/Gosden protagonists. I had a bit more on Continuous when he drifted to 4/1 yesterday. He is now back in to as short as 5/2, although Hills still go 3/1 as I write.

I'm leaving the race alone but I fancy the O'Brien horse to upset Rosallion and in doing so turn the tables on Iberian. It's not unusual for his horses to find some improvement.

He used to like unbeaten horses but in recent years he hasn't been so bothered. That said, lately you haven't had to be Rip Van Winkle or Sea the Stars to be a champion either.

 

Badri in the 2.25 to small stakes e/w (7 places, 30.0 on the exchange). Just moved to Camacho and first run at Newcastle was very encouraging but also has good turf form from previous yard. I like Sandrine later on as well.

I'm a big Biggles fan, Biggles it is then. Another bites the dust, picked 8 in last week not one winner glad ive not put ought on just for interest.

Cheers guys! Glad you picked out Sandrine, KCP. I must say, in advance of this afternoon Continuous ticked every box for a Leger winner for me. As regards the Portland, it's my preferred tactic to select two or more, provided the combined stake and potential return still represent value in terms of the percentage chances of one of your squadron winning the race. Provided she is anywhere near fit, Cachet looks a shoe-in in the 3.35 tomorrow!

2.25 A nine runner Class 2 7f handicap. The first four in the betting are all fillies. The times yesterday suggested the going is still on the soft side, and I think it's a tall order for two-year-old fillies to beat their male counterparts on sticky ground at this trip. Furthermore, while they are all promising, none of these fillies has won above Class 4. On the other hand, Richard Hannon's colt Dark Thirty won on softening ground (officially Good) at Newmarket in fairly tenacious style. That contest was a Class 3 race, and he stayed the seven furlongs well. Tom Segal (Pricewise) is going for Zouky, but I make Dark Thirty far better than a 15/2 (12%) chance. Speculative, but a value bet, I'd say.

3.35 Sceptre Stakes (Group 2). Cachet won the nell Gwynn, the 1,000 Guineas, finished second in the French Guineas and was beaten only six lengths in the Coronation Stakes in four runs last season. All Group 1 races. She is clear on Timeform and Racing Post ratings. Off for over a year, but Ryan Moore is booked and she has reportedly been taken for two all-weather gallops in advance of this. Bigger targets lie ahead, but if she is remotely fit (and the Nell Gwynn win was on seasonal reappearance) then she wins this comfortably, and 2/1 will look very big.

I haven't a clue what will win the Leger 'Legends' race but it's always fun to see ex-jockeys who have grown as fat as me!

 

Cachet seems to be drifting in the betting so it’s one to leave alone in my opinion.
She is now 5/2 which is a high price considering how far clear she is on form etc.

 

Not had a bet on gee gees for ovver a week so i'm gunner av a flutter on Vondelpark 3pm Donny, do a bit of plate driving an dropped a car off in Malton an this horse is gunner win apparently, fingers crossed i'm on Holiday t'morra an a win or place would be very nice Won on Fav, went Bowling called in to bookies an changed mi mind, lost at Bowls in the final 21 - 9, but it is only mi second year.
