Nice attempt to turn the whole thread on its head, but I don't think anyone actually said they hate Donny have they?

On the other hand, Donny Derek actually went on local radio and twice said he didn't like us, which was the whole point of this thread. He tried to be even handed with his comments, but went all Kevin Keegan on us.

His Barnsley counterpart did very well to keep his powder dry.

I'm not fussed about em at all. Only know one Donny fan but he doesn't watch them.

I don't get this dislike of us. As I say, we've hardly played them really. They've spent most of their years in the bottom 2 divisions, and even had a spell in non league.

The only reason I can see to dislike them is them trying to create a rivalry that just isn't there.

Down the years, Doncaster Rovers have been mired in one controversy or another.
My Dad supported them and I remember him telling me about one Director Hubert
Bates, who basically was critical of their manager Peter Doherty. He accused him of
sectarism in that as an Irish Catholic, he had a penchant for signing Irish players who
played for the Republic of Ireland. The upshot was that Doherty resigned and decamped
to Bristol City. Rovers went into sharp decline after that and as we know, at one point they
played Non League football. The next major scandal involved former owner Ken Richardson
who recieved a custodial sentence for conspiring to burn the Main stand down to benefit from
an insurance claim. The least said about John Ryan the better. Basically like many Doncaster
supporters, he had a massive inferiority complex where Barnsley Football Club, its ground, training facilities,
Academy, team and supporters are concerned. In truth, we are a million light years in front of them
and it genuinely will always stick in their craw.

Don't mind Donny as a town. Plenty of good restaurants in town and the road network is infinitely superior to Barnsley's. The Yorkshire Wildlife Park is superb and the airport is much less bothersome than Manchester. The races are a good day out and Lakeside is thriving. I don't know how ,much of that is due to the council but if they've been responsible it puts our's and Rotherham's to shame.
As regards football I always had a bit of a soft spot for them because they were always in a lower division when I was a kid and I wanted all the Yorkshire teams to do well. It's only since they moved to the Keepmoat that we've played them a few times. They were a bit of a bogey club to start but all that's totally irrelevant when it comes to tonight., I'd rather we went up automatic and them as play-off winners than any of these southern teams.

Tell ye nip they’re fkin delusional, like typical p!keys they nick everything they want. Nicked Robin Hood from the Nottingham legend, nick the viking emblem off a car manufacturer (then delude themselves that they were a viking town) nick the claim to a major roman settlement off York ( my job involves recieving a lot of archaeology reports, the romans were fkin everywhere !) decided that there big church is now a minster. Nowt going for the town bar the A1 out of it but they big it up to the point that they actually believe they’re a cut above. Town full of gypos, always has been, always will be. Do trot on

I worked for a Doncaster based company for 15 years, more social climbers than you could shake a stick at ! MD’s son told me “town is in the up, you watch dingle we plan to be in the premier league in 3 years” fk me. I asked him why they had a viking as an emblem and referred to themselves as ‘the vikings’ although I already knew the answer I wanted to see what he said, ‘Doncaster was a big viking town before the romans took it over. We’re very proud of our kiking heritage ‘ similiar answers from the office staff and lads in the shop floor. Oh, and apparently it was also a huge roman garrison town, Doncaster mirrors Chester in many ways. Or so I was told. As I said fkin delusional

I live in Doncaster, nobody thinks it is a Viking town, the history dates back to been a Roman fort named after the river, and again it was known as a fort not a major roman settlement

The fact they think the vikings came before the Romans is bad enough but to think they’ll get in the prem at any time makes me think the educational system in Donny needs to be seriously looked at.

My brother in law lives at Bennethorpe, I work with plenty of donny folk. I dont know anyone from donny who is a rivers fan or otherwise who doesnt think it. Its like nicking tenuous links with Robin Hood from Nottingham and naming every second business Danum. Donny as a town is no different to Barnsley or Rotherham it just thinks it is. We met a woman on holiday last year, wearing more gold than BA off the A team. When I asked her where she was from she replied (smiling smugly) I live just in the outskirts if Bessecarr, Oh I said, Cantley then! Her faced dropped a mile. Sums the town up perfectly.

The fact of the matter is, Doncaster has more going for it and a brighter future, we might not like it but Doncater has the second biggest economy in South Yorkshire and has had millions of pounds invested in it and has assets other towns would love to have, what major investment have we had in Barnsley that Doncaster has had, and it doesnt help our cause making posts like these just makes us sound jealous.

Why are they tenuous links of Robin Hood .
Sherwood Forrest was massive in the days the book is about most places mentioned are just outside the York’s Birder and some inside .
The only definite thing that came from Nottinghsm was the Sherrif

I think the supporters of doncaster have and always will be a little envious of barnsley a smaller town population and area wise with a bigger fan base and better history. Some bitter comments on their forum about us from a club that apparently doesn't class us as rivals.

The fact of the matter is that the fans of the club and people of the town have a massive superiority complex as evidenced by your last post ?

I think generally though most folk would agree that the story is associated more with Nottingham than finningley.
