Incredible run they're on. 8 wins in a row, lost 1 in 15. They were looking like relegation fodder 3 months ago, looking like getting in playoffs now. A nod to Harrogate too, given themselves a chance of playoffs.
At the start of the day I would have said there were too many teams in front of them but every result has gone their way, Crewe, Crawley, Barrow, Wimbledon, Walsall all losing. Listening to PoG at the start of the year and they were despairing.
A few weeks ago a Donny fan at work mentioned the playoffs to me and I thought “hmm it would be a tough ask with all the teams in between you and 7th” but they’re doing it so far. Great run.
A colleague who’s a Rovers fan backed them at ridiculous odds a couple of months back to make the play offs. He was convinced they would. I thought he was barmy
Would never wish them well. Have people short memories of the hatred and vitriol they had towards us by many of their fans when we became a regular fixture for a few short years. They were well and truly humbled in their ‘sleeping giant’ mantra they used to spew out. Crowds only ever went above 9000 when there was a big away following. I used to work with a few at that time and couldn’t convince them that the rivalry against us was largely one way. It finally sunk in that they weren’t this sleeping giant, and that despite how poor little old Barnsley were they remained above them in the football pyramid.
