Problem is mate how long will we have to wait for that? They knew at the start of last season that we'd only get one more season from mads, he officially left a month ago and we've still not signed a new CB. They had a deal to sign Bobby Thomas if we went up. As soon as we lost the final they knew he wasn't coming back. Have we signed anyone to replace him yet? It's all well and good letting these players go, but we are way to slow to respond and react.
It’s absolutely ridiculous. The new French lad needs to make sure he plays 90 minutes against Tranmere Tuesday to give him any chance of familiarity for next weekend. I’m absolutely dreading this season. Any optimism has just gone.
It’ll be done today. But you’re right, it’s a couple of days into August and knew Thomas and Andersen would be leaving as soon as Windass scored that winner at Wembley. Beyond a joke. Especially since we were told we had two lists, if we went up and stayed down. It’s been a joke.
We probably thought that we'd signed Mads replacement last summer with Cundy, but that's not maturing very well.
I'll give you three and a half million quid. Now go out and find a player who's worth that who's willing to play L1 football for 7k a week. And I'll bet you can't.
There is a fair chance that we have a replacement lined up for both. Or at least loans from PL clubs who are just waiting to finalize their squads for the season. It wouldn't be a surprise if we got 2-3 young uns on loan.
I don't think anybody is expecting the club to go out and sign a £3.5m player. But this summer is looking like the same old story, with "the model", after an encouraging summer last year. The club seem unable to make a distinction between an established first team player, and an experienced one. For example, I wouldn't call Liam Kitching an experienced player, but the club will disagree. And the centre back being reported by Doug O'Kane as coming in is a 23 year old with less than 100 first team appearances (according to Wiki anyway). If he's replacing Mads, we're taking a serious gamble.
I'd disagree to a point. I think there are some who think it's just a matter of walking out and buying someone just as good as Mads. The fact is though that we can't. Even if we had all that money available to spend on one player. If we can't replace like for like anything else is a gamble. We've no idea whether Lopata, this possible French guy or anyone else is going to work out as Andersen's replacement. Just the same as when Andersen and Kitching were signed and immediately written off as being absolute rubbish.
What I'm saying is we can't find a Championship quality defender like Mads because a player like that won't come to us. What I'm saying is that everything below that standard is more or less of a gamble. I'd like someone else in at central defence. But that person isn't going to be as good as Andersen from day one whichever way you slice it.
Using our criteria, about 10. Carlos Borges never played a first team game for them but leading scorer for their academy. Reputedly currently on offer for £17 million.
Haaland and Alvarez would be the equivalent of Cole and Norwood. Watters, Shaw , Dallas and Iseka have about 3 starts between them so I suppose the Man City equivalents would be Delap, Borges, Sodje and Kayky. They don't have strikers with hardly any appearances in the first team squad.
