First results in on BBC for the EU elections, are showing the Brexit Party ahead in the local areas before the votes are finally added up to produce an overall ŵinner. Lib Dems are doing OK and the pundits are tipping them to finish second with Labour in third. Tories look to be literally disappearing up their own orifices with a meagre 12% of the overall vote.
Not as simple as BxP walking it. Take Sheffield, BxP got 28.1%, which under FPTP would win, but these elections don't use FPTP . UKIP got 3.9% and Cons 3.4%(!!!). But Greens got 24.8% and LibDems 18.1%. So Leave got 35.4% and Remain got 42.9%, and Sheffield voted Leave. I've not counted Labour as I'm still not sure which side of the fence they are on today.
You may as Whitey is obviously not going to answer. Not sure it's quite accurate to label everyone we disagree with as being stupid. I think Thatcher is the worst PM we have had but she definitely wasn't stupid. The devil incarnate yes, but not stupid.
I wouldn’t say every Brexit party voter is Stupid. But I can’t understand how anyone can vote for them. No manifesto no policies funding Looks suspect and a Liar leading them who is great at sound bites but no substance behind him. Maybe some of them can explain ?
Because we don't want to have MEPs any more, so they don't need any policies. If it was a general election then yeah.
They might not be stupid, but they appear to be very naive. Thank God, if it wasn't dead before, Theresa May's deal is now as dead as a Dodo and the Tory party ( plus Labour) are deep in the doodoo. It's becoming clear, that the Brexit Party are probably going to take the majority of seats. That would mean that Farage will be able to march into the EU Parliament like a banty ****. It also makes a strong case that he should also be involved in any future discussions on Brexit. We know his position. Leave the EU on Halloween , even if it means that we haven't got a deal, which, the majority trade and finance experts predict, would be absolutely catastrophic for our Country ,with regards to jobs and our possible future financial well being.
No it doesn't. The Brexit Party should have done better if there is still a majority for Leave. Brexit Party + UKIP v Lib Dem + Greens + Change are level at 35% each. This doesn't count Labour's remainers and the Tories leavers, who probably cancel each other out...or the SNP and Plaid Cymru who have a majority of remainers.
I'd agree. It's not 100% clear but then only 50% turned out so who knows what the rest think if a second referendum happened. I wonder if the Labour party will still be calling for a general election!! I know voters tend to align with their traditional parties in these circumstances, but it'd be a ******* big risk.
The Brexit party and Ukip polled at 34.9%, markedly lower than the aggregate total of the pro-second referendum parties (the Lib Dems, Greens, Change UK, the Scottish National party and Plaid) at 40.3%. You can’t work out which side labour are on, this singular issue is all defining so despite their noble efforts to appeal to everyone they’ve appealed to no one. It might change in a general election but it would be a big gamble when 34.9% of the electorate can’t see past the end of their nose it seems.
In a way that's not the worst thing. Get a Brexiter in charge of the tories and put Farage on the front line. We're already an international embarrassment, and at least this way they'll have to own the consequences.
You mean they don’t agree with you. People can have different opinions to you without not seeing past the end of their nose....
Their all liers that's why they are in politics. People still voted labour after Abbott had a nightmare and got the maths on funding totally wrong.
The only problem they've got though, is that effectively, the EU have said "that's it" and that no further concessions can be made. I think additional talks are probably inevitable and it will probably be a case of who blinks first, but I can't see any additional benefits being achieved. I've said all along, the EU are never going to give us what "we " perceive to be a good deal, so as to deter others from leaving. All that last night did, was put Farage, Widdicombe and Moggs sister et al ( all closet Tories) up front and from what they were saying, if progress can't be made, pushing to leave the EU without a deal ever more likely. That prospect appears to be even more plausible if they have bumbling Boris leading any negotiations which means we are probably heading for a disastrous outcome. Time to put it back to the people.?
I personally can't see past Dominic Raab as the next leader. He's very bright, a solicitor and a "details" man. When interviewed he does give very direct answers unlike May, who rarely answered the question asked. As you say, the EU now appear pretty intransigent, and Raab's stance of trying to get a better deal, but leaving with no deal if we can't, might mean there's enough support to cohere around him. But, I'm not sure how sincere he is on this. Maybe he really knows there's no chance of getting significant concessions and he just wants to get on with it and take the hit.
I think those that cared the most about leaving or remaining showed up. I think a lot are in theory on one side or the other but wont be until economics kick in that they bother to come out and vote Farage has done well out of Europe. Goodness knows where his next gravy train will come from
Can you enlighten me on your party’s opinion on the HNS, Welfare, Social Care, Tax and Schooling? A vote for the brexit party in a general election is failing to see past the end of your nose.
