Could be that Stendel considers one of the advantages of coming back is to renew his visa situation if the five year thing is true? UK a big market for potential coaches.
At his age, his previous contract isn't really important. It's what he gets offered this time around, from us and other clubs. Conor comes across as a pretty bright bloke, so I'm sure he's more than aware that his peak earning days are behind him. Besides, he's probably not short of a bob or two after 6 years at Villa and Derby, presumably on an average weekly salary of £25k (conservative estimate).
30th June mate. They normally run out. Before players report back for training. Players over 23 can talk to other clubs 6 months before they run out. And can sign a pre contract agreement.
I honestly would be happy with Stendel. I reckon he has now more experience than first time out so the defensive side of his setup should also have developed. Anyone else remember when he first joined us, he did a QnA at Oakwell and went through basically his interview slides, how his approach to the high press works etc. Remember it being very good and introduced good to watch footy to Oakwell. Had he not had his head turned somewhat and added a little more defensive cover in our attacking plays, his style of football was great. He may also have the opportunity to bring in players to suit that style if quite a few leave. Could be a V interesting season if he comes back and we get the recruitment right.
If I remember correctly, some modules of the coaching course were/still are carried out at our academy. He may have been doing that.
I always feel uncomfortable when we look back to hire a coach instead of looking forward. I liked Stendel back then. The expectations would be raised by fans and the environment he would work in is very different now. Has he developed positively or would the gap between what we need and what we get opened up. Im more into being progressive and think we should look to create a new future instead of attempting to re-create the past.
Exactly the minute we encounter a bad period of form it’s going to envitably raise questions of why we went with a coach we sacked before. I’m conflicted head says no but heart says yes. Neither is usually right.
To be fair, whenever we hit a bad period of form whoever in charge will get abused. Having a success before at the club, it may even buy him more time.
