I thought it was a foul. Not premeditated or cynical or professional, just clumsy. Rhodes slowed a fraction, M'voto went in to the back of him and knocked him down. Rhodes was probably looking for it, but M'Voto duly obliged. If it had happened the other way and we weren't given the foul we'd have all gone properly mental. The more irate amongst us would have actually exploded. Then there's the sending off. Law 12 on sending off offences states: "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick" Was it an offence punishable by a free kick? Yes. Was the opponent moving towards the player's goal? Yes Was it an obvious goalscoring opportunity? This is where things get tricky. He was on the edge of our box with the ball at his feet, there were two other Barnsley defenders in the picture, but they were slightly behind him and to each side. Some referees would have sent M'Voto off, some wouldn't. Because M'voto clearly didn't mean to make the foul I thought the sending off was very harsh, but unfortunately the law does not differentiate between the cynical and the clumsy. In my opinion it should.
I think we should forget that game altogether and concentrate on the next. A couple of wins and everything will look completely different.
Great post on the whole, but at the 1st highlighted point:- It was Jordan Rhodes, 18 yards from goal, pretty central, how anyone can argue that it wasn't a goal scoring opportunity is totally beyond me, have they not been watching football for the past 3 years or so? He has been scoring from there for fun, over and over again. (How I laughed when some on here thought he wasn't good enough to sign for us. You know who you are) 2nd highlight, intention is irrelevant. It was a foul, clumsiness is no defence. You may think the Law (and the guidance to go with it) is wrong, but that is not the point) And RED with your:- "Rhodes is a so called Barnsley fan too." No he isn't - never has been, never will be. Regards Rogue Bull
I have a programme which he answered a few questions, one was which club do you support and followed as a boy and the answer was Barnsley. It was when he was at Ipswich and was in the Ipswich programme.
