    I remember thinking, when we played them at Oakwell, how does somebody go from playing upfront, to left-back? Fair play to him, he defended like a striker that game. I think it was Winnall, or maybe Scowen that played on the right that first half and tore him a new one.

    It's great that he can play in so many positions, but if he's poor in all of them then it's irrelevant.

    Can you blame him? Worked out well for him in the end. He was about 14 when he broke his leg, probably worried he may never kick a ball again, nevermind not make it as a pro. Given the opportunity at a 2nd go at it. And it worked for him. Fair play to him for not giving in, regardless of who he signed for. It's football at the end of the day.

    This has got more to do with who he played for after he left us, in Tyrone's eye. Needs to grow up.

    From the horses mouth he doesn't know anything about transferring to Barnsley.

    He is definitely leaving Chesterfield though.

    Just to clear things up;

    As mentioned above, he left Barnsley as a teenager when he suffered a broken leg and lost interest in the game. Started playing for Dodworth under Doug O'Connor when he was picked up by Wednesday. Scored and won a penalty in play off final against Hartlepool in 2005 (10 years ago!).

    Brian Laws didn't fancy him at Wednesday so let him go to Luton for £250k. Converted to a winger by Kevin Blackwell, and put in a string of good performances including a man of the match performance against Liverpool. Ended up leaving to join Chesterfield after Luton's financial collapse.

    Filled in at right back after a series of injuries and took to it naturally, and captained Chesterfield to the League 2 title in 2010. Won the JPT in 2011 and another promotion from League 2 in 2014.

    He's had a series of injuries throughout his career which has probably stopped any progression higher up the pyramid. Played in central midfield whilst on loan at Plymouth and was a stand out for them. Recalled to Chesterfield and filled in at left back and again took to it like a duck to water in their run to the play offs.

    We came within 5 minutes of singing him, Johnson wanted him, but his injury record and this points scoring system that's now in place means the club pulled out of a deal. Most likely to follow Cook to Portsmouth. I think he would have been a good addition to the squad, and would have been a good alternative for the younger lads such as Bree and Smith. We've apparently got a younger alternative set to sign on a free. No idea who though!

    Im all for signing young up and coming talent from the lower leagues but not 28-35 year olds who have been playing the majority of their careers at the bottom of league one/league two.

    Cheers for that, I'd have liked him here. Versatile, local lad, free transfer, proven operator at this level.

    Is the younger alternative called Callum do you know?

    I don't mind Drew a solid professional but clearly not the sort of signing to add value and develop which is what we are supposed to be all about. Does seem a trend by our new manager towards the lower league journeyman.
