Khaled statement ...14th June " ON MICHAEL DUFF "In terms of assurances, he's under contract, he's the Head Coach of Barnsley FC and we are busy planning the pre-season and beyond that with him. I'm speaking with him today for example. "There's nothing else to report really. We are prepared for all scenarios at all times, but there's been no call to me reporting any interest. "He has been great for the club. I'm glad that the thorough process we went through, the hard work to get him here when other clubs were interested, that it has paid off for everyone. We got exactly the person we were looking for and he and I align perfectly in terms of culture and what we see a club being. "And to be honest, the results speak for themselves. "He's happy, he was hurt after Wembley and like all of us here, he's ambitious to want to use that to make sure we are just as competitive next season." That has aged well Given people on here seem to be resigned and prepared to accept that this is the norm, making excuses/justification for the 100% mercenary behaviour of players and managers in football we get what we deserve. Simply arguing that no-one would turn down the chance to double/triple their income depends on where you and, moreover depends what you have stated when you applied for the post. These 'successful' managers know full well that if they have a good season bigger clubs will attempt to lure you away. Weasel words!. IF he HAS gone he has clearly shown he is just another gun for hire and available to the highest bidder. Football from the customer's PoV is 'fuc*ed.
After only 1 year with all the promises he made to get the job ..YES. It is called having some 'integrity'.
Oh come on, he's not going to say "I'm looking forward to being here until I get a better offer," is he? Nor are the board naive enough to assume that he wouldn't be off if he does a good job having agreed a release clause. I'm sure the club gave him assurances regarding our commitment to his project; we'd still have sacked him if we were *****.
Flip side of that is that he might feel he's mostly done what he promised. Or, based on a piece that was doing the rounds a while back, he might feel that he was sold the job under false pretences to start with. Can't remember where the article was but basically Duff was commenting that he didn't realise the extent of the issues with the boardroom and the rift between the fans and the club.
Is there enough evidence to form this view right now? You could be right. However you could be completely wrong. There may be an exit clause in his contract. The Board may have tried everything they could to keep him. It may be Michael Duff that has pushed for the move. We just don't know. Right now though, we certainly don't know enough to lay all the blame on the Board.
No she is not. She obviously has integrity and a sense of honesty and not money driven. It is the time factor only one year in (see my post #421) and all his 'in it for the long haul' lies that hurt most. Don't make promise you have intention of keeping when push comes to shove. OK if you are poorly paid, in a job you working for a company you don't like, then yes, take the money. But none of these apply. We are constantly told you can't compaer football to other businesses and yet you are doing so in your responses to RH. Like I said football is fuc*ed.
Sorry Marc. I am not blaming the board but 100% Duff who has right up to the end argued he is here for the long haul. Sorry if I gave any impression other than that
Without looking into it, I’m not sure why Martin to Southampton is taking so long? Seems to have been in the pipeline for weeks now yet no official movement.
There’s definitely issues with retention at Oakwell. Every time it’s the first club that comes knocking and off they go - other clubs seem to drag things out etc and fight to keep their coaches yet it seems to be a case “off you go mate” for whatever we don’t seem to have created a culture that gives any head coach a desire to stick with us.
I don't think I've ever said you can't compare football to other businesses. It's not lacking integrity or honesty to change employer. As an employee you're selling your time at the end of the day. Companies will make you redundant in the blink of an eye, so I really don't get this idea that employees should adopt a deferential, bootlicking attitude. I'm very happy with my current firm, I like my colleagues and boss a great deal but if I were offered the opportunity to double my salary I'd be off like a shot.
Anyone remember the last manager we had at this level for a full season who failed to get us promoted? Before Duff.
Could be worse, could’ve happened week before start of season or a few weeks in. At lease a new manager will have a bit of time
Don't bank on it. They've shown before they won't rush decisions, and are happy to take their time if needed. I wouldn't be surprised to see us well into pre-season before bringing someone in.
Compensation figure, he had a clause in his contract with a figure for a Prem team and one for a champs team. Swansea say they approached when a Prem team, Saints say they're now a Championship team so should pay the lesser figure.
Look on the bright side, it 22 pages that's to do with football and not the Ashes/Politics. It's heading up the highest replied to thread of which most of the top 5 are **** all to do with football.
