I'd say it's more of a guess than an opinion. My guess - and that is all it is - is that Duff will stay at least one more year at Oakwell.

I’ve said this more than once on this board before. But I think it bears repeating.

In 26 years of professional we are Duffy’s 3rd club. Incredibly rare these days. He will take a job as far as he thinks he can before he moves on. He ain’t going to Swansea, just like he was never going to Huddersfield.

If a Premier League club come knocking, different kettle of fish. Of course he can’t refuse that. None of us would. But I honestly don’t know where these lazy assumptions about him moving on “because it’s Barnsley and that’s what happens” come from. Duff and the board have big plans, and what happened under previous regimes have no bearing on what May or may not happen under this one.

Swansea’s a sideways move. Since the largesse of the Premier League then Steve Cooper era they’ve seriously cut their cloth. Maybe they will pay him a few quid a week more. But I don’t think he’s motivated by that particularly.

It’s the same people on every single thread about him. You’ve all said he’s definitely going about 4 times already in the last few months. One day he will. But this ain’t it.

Doing yourself a disservice with that comment Big Lil! I don't know you personally but I'd wager you're a gentleman and a scholar :)

Edit: and have a terrific memory!

It may just be wishful thinking, but I am not convinced that, at this stage, Duff would leave us for a "bigger job".

I could'nt care less what people's opinions are, i just think hes been approached, and Barnsley will let him go, and we'll be starting next season with a new gaffer, and Duff will be a lot happier with his stash.

Duff is clearly more important to us than any individual player, and I am sure the current board knows that. While they will probably be prepared to sell Andersen for the right offer, I am sure they'll be desperate to hang on to Duff.

I maintain the "Comings & Goings" post in the Stickies section of this forum. It has no entries for managers, ergo, he's staying.

The trouble is, once these reports come from local journalists, rather than the anonymous click bait accounts, you can trust there is some substance to it. From the reports that I have read, Duff seems to be the only person named that has not ruled himself out, or got another job.

If Leon was reporting it I would tend to agree but he is actually reporting that BBC Wales are reporting it as a potential option.

The 2nd part of this issue is that we are probably about to offer existing players contracts that the new head coach might not even want. Whatever we seem to do with head coaches we don’t seem to have a great model for retaining them genuinely all the great work done is the season looks like it’s going to be ripped up and back to square one other clubs don’t seem to have this issue the sheer number of times we seem to.

But what are they actually reporting? They've not said an approach has been made, or is likely to be made. They've only said, he's an option. It's a non story at the minute, until someone confirms that an approach has been made.

That will be because Swansea have given Duff’s name to their journos while Barnsley have nothing to say until an approach is made.

Swansea are now in a position where they are deciding whether to pay the compo or not. The worrying thing is that to get to this stage, they will have got a gauge of interest from Duff himself, otherwise they would not have got his name out there.

Re read what i put if you can get your head out of the
"Swansea is a sideways move" I remember that's what Cheltenham fans where saying about us. Duff may think he's taken us as far as he can.. Same as Hecky and Ishmael.
I honestly don't know, if he stays or goes but they seems to be a lot of smoke coming out of South Wales and we've been here before.
I truly hope he stays.. would be a proper kick in the nuts before the challenge of next season even gets underway. Would be a massive back to square one moment if he leaves. Done wonders here in twelve months

Honestly getting concerned about this. Really sounds like there’s something in it. Would be a massive blow that could undo all last season’s good work….

The reporting is that they’re considering an approach. I suspect the reality is that they have made contact with either the club or Duff to know what the compo figure is. And the response to that has kept the story alive, for now.

Agree.. but if Duff phones Khalid and says I what to go.. then that's the end of that. Then it's all down to the agreeing of the compo.. And I don't believe for one second that the Swansea CEO wouldn't know exactly how much that would be. Plus speaking to Duff to test the water before any official move is made.
If the Official approach is made public then the deal would surely be all bar done sadly

If he goes, I hope people don’t turn on the board. If he goes, it’s because Duff has said he wants to leave, not because the board have let him.
