Just came back from Swansea. Can understand why he wouldn’t move his family there for a newish ground it looks dilapidated also.
The fact is, you have to go into it with a long-term view, if he's been offered a 3 year contract at Huddersfield, for example, in the end you've got to move. It's the reality of that life, I'm going to guess most clubs aren't as soft as us, and just say move or don't get the job. Probably realises that staying in Cheltenham means he's got both Bristol clubs, Reading and that's about it on his doorstep.
I just don't get this mentally at all. Hes a decent manager and did a relatively good job. With the squad we had we should have finished 4th and we did. That defence especially. But the way people idolise him is weird to me. He was here 5 minutes, lied, and then left. He achieved nothing, Collins was on par with his points tally right up until end of season when we dropped off a cliff. We talk as though hes Klopp
Agreed. He should move to Sheffield. If he moved to Huddersfield he'd be pestered all the time from being recognised everywhere. If he moved to Barnsley the same would happen. Leeds he would have be recognised too and get stick for managing Huddersfield. Suppose he could move to Doncaster or Rotherham.
He’s a good manager, it’s clear to see, & will go a long way in the game. He also brought the whole club & supporters together after the shocking season before. Collins failed to do that despite decent results, especially away from home, unfortunately our home form was a mixed bag with poor performances, lacking that entertainment factor. He didn’t lie, he would have been here longer, but he probably underestimated his own abilities & when a club like Swansea come calling in the league above offering stacks more cash it’s a no brainer I’m afraid. He backed himself, it didn’t work out. That’s my take on it anyway. He was my first choice this time.
The comment about us must be to get some Huddersfield fans more on his side. For what it’s worth, I reckon he will do well there and have them in a similar position where he got us. I reckon Williams will definitely end up there, maybe one or 2 others as well. Possibly Cadden.
He was never going to come back. He did lie, he said things mangers don't say, because they know they'll jump first opportunity. Collins didn't have a chance, he got slaughtered from day one. Underestimated his own abilities? Youre talking as though we won league with 100 points. His words clearly had an impact outside here as well, evidenced by Huddersfield not giving him the job in the championship because he refused to move. My opinion they'd have no issue where he resided but after what happened here probably swayed then elsewhere. People are giving him far too much credit, and I think a lot of that is false credit, used as a way to just bash club again because we didn't get him back.
Birmingham/Villa, Bristol City/Rovers, Oxford, Wolves, West Brom, Coventry, Swindon and Forest Green are all closer than Reading... Even Leicester, Nottingham and Derby are only slightly further away than Reading is (about 10-15 miles)
Well it’s been confirmed we spoke to him so for all I bash the club lately at least they tried, because he’s a good manager & fits the bill. But unfortunately as soon as Huddersfield sacked their manager it was a forgone conclusion. Unfortunately we won’t get anyone in better than Duff in my opinion.
