It's an opinion that HT is expressing. It's how he sees it, leftfield though it may be. It is wrong however to call it nonsense. (why am I in italics?)
I think we can look to make changes from last week. Bradshaw and Hedges were unlucky to be dropped; then again a goal and an assist each from Ugbo and Barnes justified their selection. To be honest, if any of Yiadom, Fryers and Cavaré are fit I'd look to bring one of them in for Pearson. Ideally Yiadom, but who knows if he'll be fit or in the right frame of mind? Not sure about two defensive midfielders; I'd keep Moncur and Potts with Williams in midfield. Don't expect a thriller: just 3 goals from either side in Preston's 5 games so far. Cue a 4-4 draw!
After watching videos of Thiam on YouTube I would describe him as an attacking midfielder / winger. Although he can score tap ins - hes not really a fox in the box type of player - he's much better suited to running with power at defences. This guy is going to be a great asset if Hecky can bring him up to speed.
I've no real knowledge of Gardner but has he been brought in to challenge for Williams spot as a defensive midfielder in 4141 or brought in so we can revert back to 442 as a stronger central midfielder who can attack and defend or again is he a Potts, mcgheehan, Moncur type of player?
Same team as last week & Gardner & Mcburnie on the bench for me, simply what kind of message does it send if you change a side that won 3 v 0
When the game settled after 20 minutes against Sunderland the midfield started pressing well not allowing time for the opposition to pick a pass and the defence held a good line which gave the team a good platform to play the guys in possession of the jersey deserve to go again unless the manager wants to change the shape for away fixture
I don't think Hecky will drop Potts after his performance against Sunderland. I think he's earned another start.
They had to cover cattermole, He started 433. This meaning the 2 in front of Williams were too deep so Cattermole drops and he's in a position of ease. We got on top when he switched it. Whilst it was good that he realise it needed to switch they still were doing bits and pieces. Make a decision and choose one.
Think the midfield were to deep early in the game which made life difficult for Williams to do his job when they started pressing the opposition and forcing errors you could see the confidence build
We did exceptionally well away from home last season. I feel that now the team is settling down the Preston game will give us a rough idea as to how it's likely to go for us away this season. We rarely do well at Ashton Gate and our abject performance at Bramall Lane is now thankfully behind us. The wins against Forest and Sunderland have hopefully given us the boost we needed especially as we should have been four up by half time in the Ipswich game. It would be great if the same team that beat Sunderland can be given the opportunity to start and contribute to our first three points away this season at Deepdale next Saturday.
